Rapid Shot- 800% attack time charge up issue
After playing Gas grenade and Lightning merc, I finally settled in on crit rapid shot. It has been a lot of fun. However there is one major and glaring issue for me.
The 800% attack time charge up time seems to be just there for no reason other than being a super inconvenience to the player. I get you fire faster when the gun is heated up. We already have the skill and risk vs reward with the fact this skill is a channel and we walk super slow while firing. This makes fighting bosses hard already since we cant simply walk around dodging and firing easily at the same time. One of the major issues with the 800% attack time charge up is when we do mechanics the game wants us to do, like rolling behind a enemy when it strikes to hit it in the back, we simply cant. The charge up is so long we cant even fire a single bolt into the back of the enemy which is what the game mechanic expects you to do. Same thing with some bosses. The boss will swing his fist and attack and i will dodge roll and try to shoot, but I cant even get a single shot off before the next attack, so i end up just rolling every attack without getting any damage off. Honestly I would say to just get rid of the 800% charge up all together. I don't see the value in it when we already have to contend with super slow walking while channeling rapid shot in the first place. At least lower the charge up to like 200% and make it so heat falls off way slower. Why should we be punished and not be able to attack while other classes can attack freely. +1 to this. I have been really enjoying my rapid shot and fire based merc build. if I am getting trapped I have to use other skills and that is fine sometimes. but on the bosses i almost always use other skills for the same reason you mentioned here.

the heat up time penalty is because there is immense dps potential in rapid shot. May be you haven't tried fresh clip yet. can potentially give you 160% more damage for couple of seconds every couple of seconds. So they gotta take something away.
having said that i agree 800% is too steep and there is no way to lower it meaningfully even with heavy investment in attack speed. Making the skill lose its steam as we go deeper in the end game. They could make it so that the heat up penalty can be brought to 0 with investment into attack speed or something. i have invested fully in attack speed and with 26 rounds per second i still have a .3 sec startup time which is feeling more and more clunky as i go deeper into end game. |

Bumping this old thread instead of creating my own.
I'm not saying they need to remove the 800% first shot delay, but it's either that or allow the heat to remain WAY longer than it does now. Having 3 seconds before max heat is all lost is too fast. Rapid shot is the only skill with this restriction and it doesn't mix with the way the game is played at all. Think it's cool that the first shot is slow? Allow at least enough time that a player can roll without losing heat. Maybe a 2 sec delay before heat decreases at all. Don't want to allow heat to stay? Get rid of the 800%. Not reduce it, but remove it. Even at 200%, the skill is a burden for anyone that has to dodge enemy attacks. You know... how you're trying to design the game. |

I think it is designed to be used during the moments, when you have time to charge it up.
When you have disabled a boss/rare with stun/freeze/electrocution and now you have a freedom to deliver a good juicy blow, probably empowered by some additional abilities, that you had set up at 98-99% of a disable meter. Probably same for Comet, Lightning Conduit and whatnot. Idea is that doing it should be more rewarding than holding left click on some spam-skill. |

You can somewhat mitigate this downside by stacking attackspeed.
Get the two falcon notables in the tree (attackspeed per dex attackspeed per accuracy). Once you get it to a certain level your delay becomes negligible and your dps will also go up. |
