I wanna complain about my recent experience as Warrior

This was my second character, I went from a frost Mage I got to around 72.

I thought I was going to enjoy the game in a different way now that I kinda understood the main mechanics, but I was just more confused than ever. How much stun resist even prevents you from being stunned mid attack? What does armor even do? What even determines my DPS and where can I see how much damage I'm even doing?

There are all these high level mechanics, but I don't even reliablly know how much damage i'm doing, let alone what my stun resist stat is, or wht it should be.

The abilities all had bizzare secondary mods like consuming a charge of this or that, that I had no idea how to generate, and I just couldn't be assed to find out because, why try to get a skill up and running unless I have hours and hours of grinding and farming to get various talents and items all geared towards making that ability SEMI usable? All these secondary considerations felt like they should be skill modifiers from unique items, or maybe some rare unique skill gem mod.

I felt like my entire experience was being gutted because the game is tuned for people who know absolutely every element of the game at a very fundamental level.

Simply put, remember getting whirlwind in Diablo 2? Or Berserker? Or leap attack? Or Leap? Or frost orb? Or blizzard? Or static field? Or teleport? Or blink?

Like, the game just bled fun, you wanted to use these new skills because they were just friggin' awesome and powerful, you didn't have to google crap for an hour and farm and go back and forth from the shop hoping they had this random mod to be able to use a new skill and enjoy a power spike, you didn't have to research and grind, and strategize just to enjoy the first act of the game and try new things.

All the skills in POE 2 for the warrior outside of that rolling slam (which was a bit clunky) felt really underwhelming. I genuinly think the game would be far more enjoyable if instead of having 5 skill support slots per skill, there were maybe just 3, and the skills were far more usable. As it stands all my attacks felt like they were pre nerfed to incentivize me to get a bit of attack speed, and stun resist.

It's just not fun having to forgo other things to to finally achieve a "passable" level of usability. Or worse yet, we gear for another setup that's stronger, but the feels just feel weak and clunky.

All abilities felt unsatisfying one way or another. Either they did no damage, or required annoying setups to even be able to use, or needed me to have charges to be full affect, or they felt slow, or they were clunky trying to hit the darned targets I wanted to, or the delay on them triggering to finally shoot out of the ground was annoyingly long.

Like FFS GGG. Why do we have to work so hard to get this game to just be passably fun?

I like depth, I like theorycrafting, in fact, for all this cluniness and gimpiness of skills, there's nothing but cookiecutter setups that everyone uses, as no one likes to have to deal with all this bloat that makes the vast majority of builds not even worth trying.

We go through the pain of creating a complex character with lots of complex setups when one button screen clearing builds is so much easier to pull of and not requiring any of the endless tradeoffs and bottlenecks we have to overcome to add a new ability to our hotbar, because the base skill is just so terrible until we improve it with endless skill points and itemization, which draws from the core power from elsewhere.

Anyhow, getting a little rambly and whiny at this point, but point is. We just want a fun game with fun, usable skills. If you're going to have mechanics that weaken a skill to add a unique bonus, please put that stuff on uniques, it's SO much more better suited there than in the skill tree.

I know these are the opinions of a nub, and all of my personal opinions are wrong. Whatever.

Absolutely am with you mate!

As a warrior main player this game is constantly trying to be NOT FUN.
So many mechanics in this game are simply unfun or there to slow you down/make you not being able to do something or just be a hindrance.
Its so jarring to play warrior sometimes.

Its not a single big thing, although i would think attack speed/Speed in general is a big part of it.
But a lot of little things add to the game just being not fun a lot of the times.

Getting stunned, frozen, chilled, killed by mobs because they overlapped some dumb AoE Abilities with ground effects, temporal chained, enemy running away from your earthshatter/leapslam whatever combo, invulnerability animations on some monsters (burrowers for example), sekhema being just frustrating and the AMOUNT of stuff melee has to deal with to keep up with ranged/casters.

You need: accuracy, mana/life leech, lifereg, max hp, armour (thats really ineffective), movementspeed, attackspeed, resistances, maxlife, mainstat, AoE Effect and so forth to just feel alright.
Then you try a ascendancy like Smith of Kitava that is Defensive only and its still not enough, you still die.

Its just a frustrating experience and i really REALLY hope they deal with it somehow. They have a great foundation with the animations but this melee gameplay is just not it.

Oh and the Tree doesnt give us options to fix most of our problems. Its all gear-dependent. Without crafting (or rather without crafting unless you have 500+ divines).
Warrior here as well. Yup.

Although i definitely notice my armor, and misc defenses, i do agree entirely about the overall slowness and 'hoops' that seem to be required. For a game that is trying to be simpler, in some ways its missing the mark big time on that front, and well... i guess on many others as well.

As for the skills and damage, i realised after awhile, paying attention to much to the skills (which all these years later, still can't provide accurate in game tooltips), is a waste of time, and i just focused on my weapons overall DPS.

Move Speed / Attack speed / Skill speed... absolute musts. Games already slower then molasses running up hill on a cold winters day with all these things, let alone without.

With all that in place, all skills, including the mighty auto attack just felt better.

But...

Light Res, Fire Res, Cold Res, Chaos Res, All Musts...
+Life / ES (pending on build)... Musts...

All of a sudden you start to see, that every character no matter what, is pretty much the same gear dependent build entirely. In the end, leaves absolutely no room for any mods to do anything fun with, other then survive. But, on the other hand, the game provides literally no fun mods of any form, on anything, in fact, almost every mod anywhere, is somehow player punishing bar a few nodes on the passive trees, and a few modifiers found on uniques such as the headhunter, HOWEVER... they nerfed that so bloody bad, with a 20 second duration, and it taking 30 seconds to move from pack to pack. Meanwhile, fast paced POE1, has a 1 minute duration on it. Yea... no sense here.

But overall as a warrior, my biggest complaint, is theres literally almost NO build diversity at all. At all! This may be due to EA, an overall lack of skills, the fact that you can no longer mix and match supports freely with a 1 limit max, the fact that every class seems locked into 'class' weapons. Or... maybe its just all of it combined and or more...

Somethings (many thing) definitely NOT the POE experience here.

I enjoyed the leveling portion of the game along with a few early maps running a smith of kitava build. That came to a screeching halt when I tried to get my 5th + 6th ascendency points at lvl 70.

I can imagine the later trials are easier with ranged characters, but trying to avoid every single hit WHILE getting close enough to use melee skills is the most frustrating gaming experience I've ever had.

I just failed my 3rd attempt at the sentinels. Up to that point I dealt with at least 2 or 3 rare mobs that had temporary invulnerability auras....they repeatedly spam attacks while I jam on the spacebar like an idiot waiting for the 1 second I can try to attack without loosing honor. Another nice one was the rare mob that regenerates health so fast that I had no choice but to facetank it and lose 1,000 honor just to kill it.

I had fun playing & leveling my melee char, but I don't have any motivation to play now because I'm not going to repeatedly farm the stupid tokens just to have a CHANCE at getting ascendency points. The whole HONOR & TRIALS system is absurd, it has absolutely ruined any enjoyment I received from the game.

Sorry for the rant, just upset.

Hey totally valid, and i feel GGG has kinda put themselves in this position where it's hard to tune and improve the game because they locked themselves into lots of systems that are terribly hard to balance and not many people enjoy.

I just never completed it a second time. I enjoy a challenge, but tertiary grinds to get resists to honor (I think it was honor) loss isn't something I play a game to do.

They need to remove all that tertiary farminig nonesense and tune it around base play.
