GGG can you please look at this Leap Slam mechanic

Preface for all of the "git gud" people:

I have 7 characters from levels 90 to 96. I am playing on standard league. I understand how the mechanics work. Thank you for your concern. If you do read this and have some constructive input, I'd love to hear it.

Now to the juicy stuff. I have a level 90 Smith of Kitava. I died 3 times getting to Atlas. The character has good gear and does pretty good except for one major thing. When I am in a pack of mobs and I see blood/poison appear on me or when I see the purple balls of doom forming, I try to leap slam in another direct away from the threat. Usually I aim for another pack away from the current threat. The problem is that Leap Slam decides where it wants to go regardless of my input. It targets other mobs and they are often right in the threat. I can be trying to leap slam directly to the right but Leap Slam decided it wanted to go left so that I can pet the purple balls of doom. I have died more times with this character than I'd like to admit because I have no control of where leap slam is going to take me when I have a lot of mobs around and leap slam doesn't make the best choices concerning my health lol.

Now you might say "well just dodge roll out". Due to cannibalism and XXX life on kill, I want to aim for other mobs with leap slam to get me away from the threat and recharge my life. Shield charge will get me about 1 meter before hitting a mob so that doesn't help.

Is it possible to remove the "auto target" feature on leap slam? If I point my character in a direction, it's because I want my character to go in that direction.

Exclusive Warrior player here (i have 3 warriors all at least 80+ in current 'league')... and personally, i have not had this with my LS.

The part you say it goes left when you went right, to be specific. For the most part, my LS seems to go where i want it to. About the only grief i have, is that fucking speed, without serious investment into attack / skill speed, its so damn slow.

But yea, thats pretty weird stuff mate. Just figured i would say 'nope' not me. Which is prolly not what ya wanna hear.

EDIT: Add : i only use mouse point click mode, not A,S,D,W. Could that have something to do with it? Shrug.
GGG - Why you no?

No. I want feedback. Is it something that happens just to me or is it something built into the mechanics of leap slam?

The only time I see it happen is when there are a lot of mobs around. Then, it chooses what targets it wants to go for regardless of my input. I am playing on PC with a controller. Not sure if that has anything to do with it but I can't imagine it would.

I am also playing with LS warrior. This is my 3rd warrior in the game and have always been using Leap. I have never had any problems with targeting the leap. I play WASD but i will give controller a try and see if the problem is with the controller mechanics.

I feel like you already answered your own question here. I think the problem is with controller you really dont have the ability to choose where or how far you jump with leap. So the game automatically targets a nearby mob.

I also sometimes experienced the problem that the character jumps left when i aim right.

Do you use both sticks with your controller? I was trying to bind leap to left hand trigger and aim with right stick the direction where i want to leap. Maybe something worth trying?

Have you tried to play with keyboard and mouse? There's no problem with leap mechanics when i play on wasd + mouse.

I think you might have been meaning to reply to me (the original poster). When I play with controller my right stick will rotate my character in place and my left stick will move my character in the direction I point.

In the situations that I mentioned above, I do not use my right stick at all. When I push my left stick to the right, my character turns to the right and starts trying to run in that direction (so he is now pointing in the direction that I want to go with my leap slam). Then, while still holding the left stick to the right, I hit leap slam. This is all done in a fluid motion but there are 2 separate actions occurring in sequence. Sometimes my character leap slams in the direction I am trying to go and sometimes he leap slams to other mobs in another direction. It feels like leap slam is picking a target, within range, and jumping to that target. My character has leap slammed to the wrong target so many times that I have become hyper aware of it happening. When it does happen, I confirm that my left stick is held in the correct direction and that my character is pointing in that direction.

As for keyboard+mouse: I have always played every game keyboard+mouse. This is really the first PC game that I have used a controller for. I've grown to enjoy playing like this. I guess, if no resolution is found, I will have to go back to old faithful and retrain myself to use KBM.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback so far.
