NPCs eating your impale sucks

Can forced NPCs not consume impale stacks? I am trying to use a combo that relies on me impaling and then using the impale to generate a strong ailment but Asala keeps taking every single one of my impale stacks. I have no choice but to put up with her for the entire Dreadnaught and she is making progress feel like pulling my own teeth out. I understand and even enjoy her narrative purpose, but for the love of everything holy, why does she suck so much to have around?
