Performance seems worse since tonight's patch

Before patch, I would have 60fps on max settings except for sometimes when getting a screen full of mobs + effects, and for some reason when on the caravan hub in Act 2.

Now I see my CPU constantly getting to 100% usage and FPS is often 45 - 50.

12600k 9070 XT 32gb RAM installed to SSD

I have tried lowering settings and it doesn't fix this.

Did you also check your internet speed. I noticed mine dropped over 200mbs when in poe2.

No, but that would cause lag, not frame loss. Also 200mbps is still plenty for online gaming. You need a lot of speed for downloading big files fast, if I had to guess you might need 5MB/s (40mbps) tops for server to system then back communication. Unless you're sharing a network and other people are clogging it up while it's choked, 200mbps isn't good if it isn't your full speed but would still be fine for playing this game. Most people were playing games like these on 56k back in the day, I'm sure you need faster speed now but it being higher tech is reliant on your system not so much your network speed unless there is a major, major issue with your connection (ie. dropping packets).

Speed helps with ping too but only to a point. I have 50ms connecting to California US and that's my fastest one (I'm in Canada but west, the only Canada server is east and 75ms). It's largely proximity to server for ping.

So, I hadn't really had MSI Afterburner on until yesterday cuz my 9070 XT got a driver update, and this game also got an update, so I wanted to pay attention to metrics to see how it was handling things (caused some deaths watching metrics in a game like this of course). Idk if I was having these fps drops before to be honest, at least I knew they were happening when the screen was full of mobs, but I hadn't noticed them on small packs (like I noticed yesterday). But my brother is playing fire mage, his fire effects cast a ton of lights, especially fireball. I had *not* tried lowering the lights setting, which at low says it only draws environmental lights, nothing for skills. So I'll try that. This and switching to (hopefully) empty global and trade channels may solve my fps woes. When I was testing running around Grelwood here with these changes made, I was 60fps lock killing packs, normally as soon as I engage a pack when playing with my brother, I noticed 45 - 50 fps, *potentially* from his fire skills. I'll post back when we play later, to give extra feedback, in case devs actually read this forum.

Another way to address this is to have a low FX setting, like Diablo IV and WoW have. In WoW at least, you can set it to not show as intense effects for other player's skills, so it's easier to know when your stuff has gone off and also easier to see enemy stuff. ie. in this game right now in a party, there can be a lot of screen clutter and you don't see enemy ground effects as easily, take damage really fast and die. In an ideal world, I could have max lights for best graphics on mine and enemy effects, and maybe not see my brother's fireball split off into 20 fireballs, each casting a light and tanking performance, with light on highest setting.

Again, will report back, but I'm enjoying the game, so want as smooth an experience for myself if I end up playing it a lot, and to make it better for others too!

Usually the CPU spiking is caused by the in game chat. Type the following into chat:
/global <####>
/trade <####>
/clear
Pound signs just mean any random number. Don't actually type the <> ...
If you only hide those channels by clicking on their tabs at the top of the chat window, the problem will persist.

This fixes the CPU spiking for most people.
