PSA: Performance Fix For Nvidia Users

Here is a possible fix for Nvidia GPU owners. YMMV.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TL;DR: Use Nvidia Profile Inspector to delete the "Path Of Exile 2" Nvidia profile.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I have seen in many posts, and as I have experienced myself, people often have terrible performance with POE2. My problems were stuttering, even though my FPS would be around 170 to 200+.

I tried all graphics settings: Upscaling off, DLSS (DLAA/Quality/Balance/Performance), NIS, DX12, Vulkan, lowest possible settings, and always the same stuttering issues.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My main system specs for reference:

AMD 7800X3D
Nvidia RTX 4090
64GB RAM
Windows 11 (24H2)
POE2 is installed on a Samsung NVME SSD 980 PRO 2TB
1 Gbps download by 50 Mbps upload internet
Ping is usually around 30ms to 50ms to California server
Nvidia driver 576.88 (Yes, I have tried older driver versions back to December 2024)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I noticed something odd about POE and POE2. They use the same EXE names: PathOfExileSteam.exe and PathOfExile_x64Steam.exe. Why GGG???

Now, I am used to tinkering with my system and modding games. This got me thinking about how Nvidia uses game profiles for optimization. I use Nvidia Profile Inspector all the time. So I checked Nvidia Profile Inspector and noticed that it has a profile for both "Path Of Exile" and "Path Of Exile 2".

Both profiles trigger for the same application EXE names, as mentioned before, and upon comparing them, you can see that there are many differences in their settings. So my thought was, if they both trigger from the same application EXE names, does this cause a conflict, and why are both profiles needed? So, I deleted the Path of Exile 2 profile. And wouldn't you know it, this fixed all my issues.

So, give that a try and see if that helps.

Note: You can export/import the profiles using Nvidia Profile Inspector as a backup, or just reinstall the driver if you want the profiles back to default.

I did test deleting the Path of Exile profile and leaving the Path Of Exile 2 profile, even though it was better, it was still a little janky. But again, you can test either profile or even delete both if you want.

Hope this helps someone. Please post your results if you try this, and also post your system specs for other people.

Disclaimer: I cannot give you detailed instructions (just Google it) as I am not responsible for you tinkering with your Nvidia drivers. While this shouldn't cause an issue doing any of this, and it is reversible, I still need to make this statement.
