I have a problem creating the character I want

this is about build diversity. I tried creating a character of my liking and this game kind of advertises it's skill system in a way that is supposed to let me do this. I'd really like to create some melee/caster mix. I have tried repeatedly, have created sorceresses, witches and warrior trying to accomplish this. But I was either lacking spell damage or melee damage (because I want to use both, obviously). And I wouldn't be able to travel far enough into the areas of the other classes in order to get both without compromising my efficiency too much.

So I guess I have to wait for Templar and Druid to arrive. But it does feel kind of disappointing to not be able to have a warrior that also uses ice spells or a lich that uses ice spells and a melee weapon. I know there's the Smith of Kitava, but I have also had trouble making him efficient enough with using melee and fire spells.

What are your thoughts about this?
