WASD vs Mouse Controls

Hello,

it would seem to me that if you chose to play without WASD controls you would gimp yourself, wouldn't you? Like, without WASD you'd hardly be able to evade mob attacks properly and shoot while moving. Or maybe it would just be very tedious to do so.

Do any of you have experience with mouse controls instead of WASD? Is anybody here even using those?

I've played with mouse by most of time, as merc, chain light/freezing witch (second version of witch), warrior (but, not at high level), essence drain witch (first version of witch). That was a bit clunky, especially at Sekhem (avoiding some traps is a pain), but you can accustom yourself - character has some inertion, which can be used to move and attack. Just more mouse moving, but you can keep your second hand free from time to time. Merc was especially comfy.
But then, i've tried a fire witch (second version of witch), through the incineration... and, that was impossible to play via mouse.
So, some builds cannot be played in such way at all, and mouse experience is less effetive.

Most of them. But incineration, as example, is almost unplayable: when you making even a tiny step, all stacks fading away immediately, while you need them.

Yes, it is an advantage. There is less micromanagement of your mouse mostly, which means the control scheme is much more efficient at kiting while keeping DPS uptime.

You are gimping yourself competitively a little by playing with mouse control, but if you just enjoy the game that way and changing your control scheme is too much of a hassle then playing with mouse is just fine.

When they do introduce WASD to PoE1 I imagine a lot of speedrunners who have mained mouse for all these years will probably be upset when someone who plays efficiently enough beats them with WASD. It may even create a divide among racers and cause people to discuss whether they should separate the WASD and mouse players. I doubt the very top will care though because they are probably already practicing WASD in PoE2 and are ready for it.
