Respawned inside Abyss pit, can't move

I died and respawned, and I believe I was unable to move because the checkpoint spawned me inside the Abyss pit (the big green node on the minimap, where a chest or Abyssal Depths might spawn after clearing the monsters). I could still use skills, and clearing the monsters to complete the encounter and fill in the pit allowed me to move again.
