Gem Studded ascendancy not working

I have a gemling legionaire with 10 each of green red and blue support gems.

On the skill description it says that the most numerous support gems gain bonuses.

This should give me all 3 bonuses from the ascendancy from the wording.

On the wiki it says skill gem colours also count, which doesn't help much as most appear white and do not have a clear defined colour (eg most grenade skills are strength/dex and are unclear whether they count as red or green gems without looking on POB.

I have played around with removing supports to try to get mana cost for skills reduction as that is the easiest to tell if it is working, and try as I might I cannot get it working.

I once thought I had managed to until I realised the reduced cost of the skill I was using as a test, was because I had removed a support gem from it.

Please clarify how this is meant to work, whether it just counts support gems or also skill gems, whether equal numbers of whatever gems count towards it grant all 3 bonuses or if one needs to be lower, and whether it is functioning as intended.

When im counting supports only - blue doesnt work, red i have no idea because it doesnt show on the character sheet, green looks like its working.

No matter how many skills and supports i put in, mana cost never changes, ofc when those supports dont have mana cost multipliers.
