"Rakiata's Flow" interaction with Sunder my Enemies ascendancy is not consistent

My character has 100% critical chance, Rakiata's flow socketed into a storm wave and the "Sunder my Enemies" ascendancy skill activated.

In my mind there are two ways these two can be computed (if applied consistently):

1. Rakiata's flow logic applies first, ascendancy logic applies after:
* If enemy resistances are positive, rakiata inverts the resistances; ascendancy skill has no effect as the resistance for the hit is negative (as per wording on the node);
* If enemy resistances are negative, rakiata inverts the resistances to positive; ascendancy node then makes the resistances 0%.

2. Ascendancy logic takes precedence over Rakiata's flow logic:
* Whatever resistances enemy might have had, are set to 0 and Rakiata can invert it all day long, still 0.

However in my testing I'm seeing that for enemies with negative lightning resistance the damage decreases significantly while Rakiata's flow is socketed. This is not a possible outcome in either of the two scenarios described above. The behaviour I'm seeing really feels as-if the ascendancy node is entirely non-functional with Rakiata's flow in play.

Otherwise no Monk above lvl60 can use this valuable support gem.

Have you tried Rakiata on charged stuff support gem?
-This should buff storm wave or ice strike or basic attack
- then just place waystone with +elemental resis on monster and try all 3 variants

In the first scenario you considered that "Sunder my Enemies..." doesn't touch negative resistances. How come in the second scenario it suddenly applies to negative resistances?

In scenario 2, the following happens: an enemy monster’s -20% lightning resistance is not affected by Critical Hits ignore non-negative Enemy Monster Elemental Resistances because it's negative. And then Rakiata's Flow inverts it to +20% lightning resistance.
