Rage on Ignite, Blood of Rage and Eternal Rage bugged (for ranged attack builds)?

So I am trying to build around ignite and rage with a Gemling. My main skills are Incinerating and Rapid Shot. To make sure this works, I skilled my Gemling on standard accordingly. But neither the „Gain 1 Rage with Hits that ignite targets“ nor the „Gain 8 rage when you use a life flask“ passives seem to be working as I envisioned - at least I don‘t see any Rage building up on the upper left hand screen side; the skill gem window doesn‘t show any change on the DPS number either.

Logically, the „Eternal Rage“ spirit gem has nothing to „regenerate“ for. What am I missing? My hits are clearly igniting enemies (specced a ton into magnitude of damaging ailments and flammability etc.).

The wording, to me, clearly indicates that all kinds of hits qualify for these passives (Blood of Rage should work for every build regardless of hit-type anyway), so no melee skill required, right? It‘d be a really nice way to scale damage since investing so much into magnitude and proj speed comes at the cost of plain attack damage the magnitude would scale from. Anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks!
