Rare monster death effects not triggering, possibly when shapeshifted

I have tried these with a couple of different death effects for rare monsters, and they don't seem to be triggering for me. I haven't seen a thread about them, so wondering if it's only an issue when the player is shapeshifted? I'm playing a shapeshift class, and am never in human form. Has this been reported?
