Returning to ship too early bugs out final quest of Act 4

The return to ship option shows up right after you kill the boss, and I accidentally clicked on it while for the quest you have to witness the hooded one.
When I returned to the area via checkpoint the npcs disappeared and the boss was still dead. So there's no way to complete it without resetting the zone
