Currency Exchange on console feels bugged

Every time I try to set a trade, when setting my side of the I have currency the number randomly jumps super high to a ridiculous number when I only wanted 1 item.
I always start by setting the other side what I want first, typically I set it to buy just one. Then when I set my currency it goes bam, then jumps to the completely wrong very high number that scrambles my trade for no reason then I have to fix both sides back to a trade for the 1 item every time.
This happens 100% of the time, and it's very inconvenient and it makes no sense.
