PoE2 combat sucks. (Time to die, logouts, potions, leech, and on-death-explosions)

There's really no sugarcoated way to say it. This was the single problem I was hoping would be resolved from POE1, and it is, if anything, now worse.

I fully agree with Mark's statement that he needs to be able to kill players.

However, given the design of the player health pool with the near infinite recovery options available between leech, life on hit, instant health potions, and now the ultimate defensive layer, the "Pause & Logout" combo... POE combat feels like it's in the worst state it has ever been.

Basically, in order to kill the player, game designers must now execute a kill within the span of human reaction time, or about 200ms.

Hard content loses the ability to telegraph that it is hard (via gradual, unrelenting and ramping damage), and all "threatening mechanics" are forced to evolve into the same ultimate form "instant One-Shot explosion".

As a player, this sucks. Constantly being on guard for an untelegraphed 200ms insta-kill means that the POE1 meta of "offscreen or be offscreened" is once again the only effective way to play.

It is antithetical to anything approaching "skill based gameplay".

Out of curiosity, I started Elden Ring character and ran into the Margit The Fell fight and AFKed until he killed me on a fresh character. It took 12 seconds.

I don't think there is a single encounter in POE2 that would take longer than 10 seconds to kill a single character. And that includes afking in any map with any sort of monster on screen.

I hate to say it, but Diablo 3 actually did this correctly (at least initially). Health potions have a cooldown, all sources of leech were deleted, and it takes 5 seconds to logout in active-game time.

I honestly think the game would be improved by deleting all recovery (leech, on hit, on kill, life flasks, everything) and rebalancing the game.

Because this just isn't fun.

A final update after playing in T15 maps for a decent while.

Single portal maps pairing with bullshit oneshot mechanics means effectively the only time you suffer anything approaching mob interaction means you die, lose the map, and to top it all off it almost exclusively occurs AFTER HAVING ALREADY KILLED THE MONSTER.

I realize the endgame was rushed, compared to the early acts which play much better... but it should have never been released this way.
Ok no, I disagree, deleting life restoration methods is not a solution, if would be a downgrade. What they need to do is remove tediousness from the game and make it hard with mechanics, not bloat, hoard or woopinf
Acts 1-3 felt like I was playing the next greatest genre of gaming.

After that, it became clear that I am just playing a slower, dumbed down, more grindy and more buggy, half baked version of PoE 1 with arguably the worst feeling deaths in any ARPG, ever.

It seemed so promising, but this ain't it.

You spoke my truth for me.

I was lucky enough to have a friend gift me a computer so we could play together. I had been done gaming of any kind for over a year. I was experienced with 4 and a half leagues worth of PoE and even got to the point that I was more skilled and knowledgeable than he was.

We got into act 1 and were both amazed at the new difficulty. we had to support each other. He tanked as a warrior and timed up hard hits while I provided backline consistent damage and dealt with slowing incoming packs and AOE'ing them down. We each used the full gamut of skills to debuff, set-up and knock down. It was indeed the new generation of ARPG.

Fast forward, we each hit spots where our characters were useless. We switched up and with more knowledge we turned the game into the same zoomfest we remember from before, just without a dash skill. Now we each brag about our new level of screen clear and ability to melt bosses in 5-20 seconds.

I asked him how he was still ok with the game, when what sold us on it was a new fresh experience? He's an Andy through and through, he hates criticizing games, hed rather pretend they're perfect and then silently quit when I am not looking. He wont admit its shit, he wont admit its just PoE with way less to do, yet his gameplay loop is literally PoE1, except he feels good because the lack of complexity and broken balance makes him feel good. For once he is able to top my performance because the monk is broken in this baby-fied version of a game that already had it made.

There will be no videos of how top players spent weeks making the perfect item, about a new build made to clear one type of content out of hundreds perfectly. There will be nobody besides paid streamers dedicating the bulk of their gaming life to this half-baked attempt to follow up on what needed no following up. POE1 didnt need a sequel, it just needed them to do more leagues, and keep trying fixes for well known problems that now, in context, pale in comparison.

All PoE2 did for me was make me consider playing PoE again, now that I got the computer. I don't know if I want to game as a hobby anymore, but if anything was going to bring me back in any long term fashion, PoE2 would not be it. I cant quit right now because even though the novelty is gone, I at least have to honour the time and resources my friend put into making this PC for me, but I don't fear. Their is no way he will make it in this game either, whether he admits the grim reality of this failure or not.

At first I was upset I couldnt refund, but nowadays I'm just sad for GGG
Been playing T15 maps and i lost a couple of citadels to bullshit instakill mechanics, it didn't bother me for the common atlas nodes but losing a citadel to instakill mechanics is just bullshit, you have to play the same 3-4 maps 15 times over to get to a citadel, you kill the mobs and one of them decides to explode in the blink of an eye or leave burning ground that 100-0 you in half a second and you loose one and a half hours of progress...

Yea i just uninstalled the game.
