Tactician "Watch how i do it"
I'm not entirely sure which one of these is true (if not both) but the "Watch how i do it" node in the Tactician ascendancy currently either does not increase ballista damage from your weapon, or does not update on the tooltip. I have tried creating some ballista with a low level crossbow and a higher level one and the only change in the tooltip damage is the same between the both and only gaining bonuses from other sources of "X damage of allies near your presence" and not directly scaling with 25% of your weapon's damage, neither physical nor elemental. When used on mobs its harder to tell but it did not seem like the damage increased either (harder to test due to variance and the faster hits of them as well).

same, does this even work for totems or is it bugged?

"Neither. The damage of totems is modified by your stats. If you have something that adds damage to you, it will affect balistas damage. But if it only adds damage to allies, it won't affect balistas damage, because they don't use their own offensive stats (as they use yours). |

" I tested it ingame, this is indeed correct. It would be great to understand if the node is intended to not work with totems. It would also be helpful to understand/have an explanation what "your main hand Weapon's Damage" refers to - is it base damage, phys damage only, or 25% of all damage values on the weapon? |

idk why it won't work on totems, it literally reads "allies in your presence gain added attack damage equal to 25% of your main hand weapon damage" an ally is players, minions, or any other entity helping you. Totems really shouldn't be an exception in this case, it makes zero sense thematically and pretty much means this class is just DOA if this is how its going to work.

Tested this thoroughly against a boss, it doesn't seem to work for totems at all, whether or not that's intentional I can't say

" It's not just "allies" it's "allies who have their own stats." It's written that way because totems are the ONLY type of ally currently who does not have their own stats. This is true in PoE1 as well and has always worked this way. |

Totems count as "allies" in this game and you can confirm that by looking at the tooltip itself or using other "allies in presence" modifiers to confirm that they do as well, such as the "Hysteria" attack speed node or the "Presence Present" attack damage node, both by the duelist/merc area.
The fact that this node does not work on ballistae (and after testing, tamed beasts and skeleton archers) means its not a "ballista" issue but a "ascendancy no worky" issue. |

I am truly hoping they fix this because:
1) you cant really use this on minions since you need a 2h to get flat dam high enough to be beneficial, which means losing the spirit bonus on scepter, which with the high spirit cost of minions hurts the viability, especially if you want to include defenses etc... 2) if u do try this on minions that means you also need high INT, which will likely conflict with the stat requirement of the 2h (STR/DEX). 3) Skills tied to a specific weap e.g. totems to mace or crossbow further limits your flexibility already, so at least if the bonus damage works then maybe a fun build can be made for the effort/time investment of all of the above. |
