collocation of a 1U server costs ~35-50eur with a 1G unmetered connection
within a 1U chasis you can fit up to 2 CPUs and terabytes of ram

that 1U server can be bought refurbished if needed (250-300eur) and just this server would be capable of handling at least 1-2k players simultaneously


so no, there's no connection, just pure profit and milking off the 'diehard' fans they have

(edit: I'm not even going to talk about the rentable servers, OVH with DDoS protection, two Xeon Gold CPUs /64core+/ and 256-512G ram and a 1-10G connection is <300eur/month)

Dude, workers need to be paid, can you shut up and stop crying about milking? none of those are mandatory and they're non invasive.
