Companion Aura Issue?

I have a crested behemoth companion with "increased area of effect" and "hinder aura" and monsters seem to need to be directly under it for the hinder aura to apply. Other companions with hinder aura seem to be fine. It seems to me that increased area and hinder aura should be quite large on the screen?
