Last Epoch (LE) now has fewer players than Path of Exile 2 (POE 2). What does this tell us?

It doesn't really tell us anything. Maybe to stop using player counts as a referendum on what game is better. Player counts will only tell you what's popular. And many factors affect popularity, not just how good is a game.

All things considered, I would say LE and PoE2 are both okay games, but players nowadays have zillions of choice of what to do with their time and it's really difficult for a game to keep player attention for too long. Only exception would be a couple of weeks after releasing a big content patch.

Whether it will evolve into a serious competitor to PoE remains to be seen.

It wont. It is B class game, cheap in design. Will remain niche, just like pixel games (no matter how good they are) will always remain niche. If they want to make it to high league they must invest a lot into design, that is, game bones. And that basically means making a completely new game from the ground.

I don't play LE but if we're going to be fair LE has been live for barely over a year.
GGG on the other hand has had 12 years since open beta to polish their systems.

One of poe 2's main problem in my opinion is that it's trying way too hard to impose some sort of balance to make the game challenging for all types of player at the same time, this comes with so much restrictions and roadblocks it often comes off as anti-player or anti-fun. And it has a lot of tedium on top of it that seems really slow to be ironed out.

Also the game is clearly lacking in content and endgame systems, you could have a lot more player power and zoomness if you raise the ceiling, with more content and more challenges.
I believe ggg is trying too hard to be perfectionist and it leads (in my opinion) to very slow and very conservative addition in content. For some reason they seem to be deathly affraid that anything new will be too strong or too rewarding (God forbid !) so everything new is going to be undertuned in reward and overtuned in difficulty, and potentially coming with excessive restrictions, everytime. And clearly a lot of players are running out of patience with that.

100%

players are tired of 12 years of getting a half full bowl of cold soup with a fork instead of a spoon.

my patience with this company has been paper thin for years, and .2 snapped the string holding it together from the fun i had in .1.

It tells us ARPGs are niche and that PoE2 haters are not very bright.

Tells us last epoch has 0 bots....

Cope. Tho maybe it's true since loot is abuntant and boring in this game.

There is no reason to bot LE on industrial scale, as their trade system is much more robust than poe. Our favorite trade site here was always the perfect RMT bait, with everything in the game allowed to resell indefinitely.

"Everything is an item" is not the same bright idea as "Everything is a file" once was:)

My last post about comparing poe trade site with LE guilds got deleted in like 5 seconds, guess someone doesn't like the comparison.

While many complainers tried to claim that LE would destroy POE 2 because it’s supposedly “super fun,” LE has lost players three times faster than POE 2.

What does this tell us? When you can blast through the endgame in three days, you move on to something else after those three days—that’s it. Many streamers didn’t even play LE for a full week, and several returned to POE 2, only to complain that the game is too hard.

GGG, you shouldn’t be afraid to fix the game, especially those bugged one-button builds. These are what’s killing the game, and most players don’t even realize it.
The OS vs. OS gameplay is ridiculous. What’s the point of having combat or boss mechanics when you can deal 20 million damage in one hit after just 7–8 hours of playtime?

Sure, there are legitimate criticisms about crafting, loot, or balance, but the game being “too hard” isn’t one of them. It’s actually too easy—or rather, unbalanced. I avoided using bugged mechanics, yet the only effective way to defeat bosses is to OS them.

I don’t mind a game being slower than POE 1; it’s a different game. But you shouldn’t balance the game around skills like Lightning Spear, where you need to put OS mechanics in the game to counter player power.

You have the opportunity to create a ARPG different. do it.

So what does it tell us that the second game of a game that has been on the market for 10 years lost 90% of its players in about 6 months?. For example, if there was no Poe1, there wouldn't even be content to put in Poe2. The point was to bring new content... They're taking the easy way out and pulling everything from Poe1.
