Feedback on the Early access from Grandpa
I’m a casual player in my mid-60s who genuinely enjoys the game. Over time, I’ve purchased extra inventory space and the occasional cosmetic that caught my eye. That said, after playing the .2 version of The Hunt, I feel compelled to share some feedback from the perspective of a casual player with limited knowledge of crafting.
First off, I play on an Xbox console, and navigating the social options is difficult at best. I also don’t have a computer nearby, so using the current trading system pulls me completely out of the game. A trading board, like the one in the original Path of Exile, was a much better solution and a fair compromise for console players. In terms of balance, I think most aspects of the game are well done—except for the boss fights. They’re far too long and punishing for someone my age. The difficulty spike often feels disconnected from the story quests that lead up to them. The in-game market is also massively overpriced, which forces me to rely solely on the gear I pick up or craft, often with little to no currency. Ideally, the questline should help guide players toward gearing up for the pinnacle boss fight of each act. Instead, I find the resistances required and boss mechanics feel out of sync with the rest of the act. Some of these fights can take me over an hour to complete—and that’s just not reasonable given my age and motor limitations. I don’t have the META gear or builds that the hardcore players use. I just want to play a game and enjoy myself—not feel frustrated by excessively long and demanding boss fights or be forced into mastering a complex in-game economy just to compete. This isn’t a complaint or a "whine"—it’s honest feedback from someone in an older generation. I live with nerve damage in my hands, and grueling, hour-long battles simply aren’t feasible anymore. And to those who might want to reply with “Git Gud”—that ship sailed years ago. 最後にスレッドがバンプされた時間 時刻 2025/06/02 14:12:36

As an older player myself who couch plays (with a PC because sony hates this game):
1) Follow the campaign meta if you are struggling, at least until level 65 or so when you can buy gear that will take you through early maps with ease. There's a build for every starting area that can sail through early content without having to touch trade. 2) I can't recommend a controller with back paddles enough if you struggle to move your hands around. I have an cheap 8bitdo with dodge and shift bound to mine. 2) I use a phone for my second screen. Trade whispers still work there but yes a marketplace is very much needed if GGG want console players to take part in trade. |

I agree with everything you said. Since I play casually, I don’t really keep up with the campaign meta. I usually adjust my build depending on the questline in each act. If the monsters are generally weak to fire, cold, or electric damage, I’ll gear up accordingly.
But when I reach the act’s final boss, I’ve noticed they tend to have resistances that don’t follow the same pattern. Right now, I’m at the end of Act 3, and the boss I’m fighting is highly resistant to electricity, which happens to be my current build. I went with electric because it worked well throughout the act, but now I’m barely scratching the boss with micro damage. The fight has become overwhelming, so I’ve set the game aside for now. Rather than get frustrated, I decided to go play some golf instead. |

Hi gramps, yeah unfortunately GGG loves to balance their game around the sweaty tryhards playing 10+ hours a day. I am merely middle aged and generally having like 2-3 hours a day to play, and in endgame it feels like I am going absolutely nowhere. Like hitting a solid wall of no-progress. This game is balanced in a way where you need to treat it like a job + overtime just to be able to engage with endgame.

I do enjoy the game — it's actually why I’m taking the time to write this review. In the current version, I’m only up to Act 3, but I also have an endgame character in Standard mode.
I’m not asking for the game to be made too easy or to take away the challenge that hardcore players enjoy. But there should be a mode or system that keeps casual players engaged as well. I’m retired, and I have no interest in turning a video game into a full-time job. Next time, I might try the mode where you can only use items you find or craft yourself. Maybe that’s the path I should’ve taken from the start. Also, I really appreciated your comments — they were thoughtful and helpful! |

" That's even more of a job lol. |

" Agree with everything you wrote. The time sunk in this game is what gets you ahead and end game is frustrating for most people. Don't try SSF though, it's even worse. You don't magically have better drop rates like in Last Epoch. Right now, there really is no way around it except to play meta builds and follow guides. I was in the same boat until I started doing meta builds and put more hours in however I am starting to get burnt out. |

That is what I am trying to avoid, burn out or quitting in fustration. I will take your advise.
