IDEA: The Living World
The Living World in GW2 is a mechanic that extends the storyline indefinitely while evolving the game world after the main campaign (e.g. cities getting destroyed, new areas appearing, etc.). I think this system would be a great fit for PoE2's Atlas, where sections of the Atlas could be dedicated to special story events that change from season to season.

A timeline could be added on top of the atlas to allow players to scroll through time, replay past seasons/events, and see the evolution of areas on the atlas.

They talked about something similar if I remember correctly with Zizaran.
It won't fit the game TLDR. On Probation Any%

" well that's disappointing. I think OP suggestion could be fun and interesting esp since the new atlas is generated as it goes. Do you remember the reason for such idea being not compatible? |

" Overall it wasn't some deep explanation, it's just doesn't fit in their seasonal model. I don't remember details. Interview with Jonathan for sure in max 3 years. Use transcript to find out. Some of the interviews have timestamps. On Probation Any% 最後に Dxt44#4050 が 2025/07/19 13:59:55 に編集

" that makes sense, longer dynamic story will take away from this business model. thanks for elaborating |

I think the mechanic could still fit the seasonal business model. The latest content could be tied to the current league (present in the timeline). Then, when the league is over, the content gets pushed to the base game (past in the timeline).
Also, in GW2, players who want to play past content need to purchase them. Imagine a league collab with Alien... a ship crashes on the Atlas, and the whole map gets invaded by Xenomorphs. Could be fun and lucrative... |

" Yep. I'm saying it again and again - POE2 endgame sandbox is outdated and boring. Its potential is ~200k people on start always with steep decline every day - no matter how many classes/skills/skilltrees/items/bosses they add. It is boring in its core (monotonous speedy grind with occasional bossing). GGG must renovate endgame radically if they want the game to succeed. And, indeed, to do this they must add stategic layer to the Atlas, so it would be fun just to interact with the world. Right now Atlas means nothing. It is just a soulless machine that simply changes repetitive maps for you to run. |
