Path of Exile 2 Is Not Path of Exile 1 — And That’s Exactly the Point

Thank you

+1 Totally agree. PoE2 looks and feels way better than PoE1.

I do however think that PoE2 needs the variety in league mechanics PoE1 has. I hope the port and adapt them all to PoE2. But what PoE2 mainly needs to " learn" from PoE1 is the player agency on which mechanics you want to focus on. We need a way to influence individual maps with a scarab like system, we need more crafting options (and a central place to craft) and we need as much variety in endgame as possible.

I generally agree that both should be different games, but I think this needs a more nuanced approach:

First things first, everybody should stop blaming PoE 1 players for all the woes in their gaming world. Being confrontational will not solve anything but entrench people more into their opinion; especially dangerous since GGG, at the end of the day, will properly listen to the PoE 1 players over PoE 2 players.

Why?
a) They know these players for a long time, and with that comes a certain amount of mutual trust and understanding.
b) That is where a lot of their money comes from, or rather a "safe amount" of money. PoE 2 players, economically speaking, are still a wild card. Will they stay with the game for a decade and become whales? Are they just hopping in due to hype? Too many unknowns at the moment to stake any financial future on.
c) These players know GGG and how to give feedback GGG can act on.

Now, as I know many people don't like to hear this and stopped reading after the first two words to misrepresent what I'm writing, let me be clear:

I want PoE 2 to succeed as its own game, but that will be hard if PoE 1 players keep being demonized.

Secondly, GGG has decided to make this a sequel, so they are bound to certain expectations. I agree that some of them are nonsense, but some should be heeded. Playing PoE 1 again at the moment, one thing PoE 2 needs to address in my opinion is player agency. That is core "Path of Exile" to me. That needs to be in PoE 2. What do I mean by that? Allow the player to decide how they will approach something. A simple example is the Atlas: You decide how you want to approach the Atlas, what farming strategy to take, which next goal to reach, down to the level of individual map selection. PoE 2 will solve some of these things naturally with more content and patches, but some probably need deliberate addressing.

Thirdly, we will have to wait a few more patches to truly see what GGG wants this game to be. I see a lot of statements like "slow" or "meaningful combat" thrown around, but let's be honest: Those don't mean absolutely anything. Just buzzwords used to differentiate from PoE 1. GGG needs to actually showcase through changes to the game what exactly they want from PoE 2.

And finally, everything needs to be open to change. GGG needs to experiment. They need to iterate on ideas, throw them out, reel them back in. Over and over again. I would assume PoE 2 will look a lot different in 1.0 than now, and that will probably be a good thing.
Huge +1

PoE 1 is too zoomy. I despise Quicksilver flask and Flame dash.

PoE 2 is absolutely awesome, engaging and balance feels just right at the first part of the campaign. Then players get more and more powerful, engagement is slowly lost and when I reach maps and earn 2div to put together some gear, I find myself 1-click screen exploding T15 and at that point the game is over for me. If the game doesn't require anything else than a 1-click (which is a PoE 1 style) then I have no desire to play.

I would really like to see PoE 2 to return more towards the initial vision (difficulty on launch day 1), this was amazing, memorable, hard, rewarding!

Stay away from PoE 1 zoomfest as much as possible with PoE 2, thank you :)

I really love poe2, really...

But we need a poe2 endgame... this poe1.5 style endgame where hardness is replaced by quantity and not understanding what is happening at the screen gets boring very fast...

I wish the game just kept scaling the monsters and did not cap the xp as well... would be amazing to explore the limitless map as an expansion of the campaign dynamic... less quantity and more hardness ggg... just like the campaign

I hope POE2 will go as far away from POE1 as possible.

HC SSF. What else? Ruthless when?
poe1:
- more systems that are fully fleshed-out enhance the gameplay-loop variety
- you can click your way onto the zoom-express and ride to the endgame loot-casino
- more crafting agency
- more loot
- no meaningful combat: it's almost all roll-based because the pace is way too fast and even slowed down, it's click-based and clunky.
- has been out for 12+ years, is a complete game and then some.
- Dated Graphics.

poe2:
- the zoom-express now requires you to learn and execute combat in order to board and it's much more difficult to quickly delete a campaign boss.
- executing this combat adds to the TDTRRELC (Total Difficulty and Time Required to Reach the Endgame Loot-Casino).
- the endgame loot-casino is not as juiced as the one in poe1 (Making the TDTRRELC not feel worth it for many poe1 loot-casino addicts).
- less crafting agency
- less systems that are fully fleshed out leave the gameplay loop lacking variety
- Has been out for 9 months and is not a complete game.
- Modern Graphics.

There we go.

There are people who like playing a nearly-pure RNG roll-based combat and loot-casino simulator, and then there are people who like something similar but with more room to master gameplay and potentially mitigate bad-rolls with the aforementioned gameplay mastery.

That means the pace has to slow down so that the gameplay can be allowed to occur and allow for human-level reaction times, not just RNG-based roll outcomes.

"The Vision" has been memed by the poe1 casino enjoyers who don't like that it's now more difficult to receive the same kind of gambling satisfaction from the combat gameplay of poe2 (either because they're bad, the casino just isn't as juicy, or both) and prefer the roll-based fully-fleshed out (and naturally faster paced) gameplay of poe1, and I agree - poe2 is not for them.

poe2 definitely has it's issues but "The Vision" is a good vision, and I like what they're cooking - it's just currently half-baked.

I agree, poe 2 needs to be its own game, ggg needs to stop making it more like poe 1, you can see this clearly in endgame maps, monster density & power is so high that i want to avoid combat as much as possible, which means one-shoting everything from afar
