They clarified more details about mercs. Each merc will have a set affinity for certain attributes (Str/Int/Dex). They can only use gear that requires those attributes. And they can only use weapons appropriate for their 'archetype'.

We'll need to find an Int caster merc and give it Gravebind and 2x Obliteration. And eventually find one that has a useful aura too. Not sure if a perfect combination will be avaialble. But even without an aura, the explosions will make the Trickster very happy.

But Gravebind is Str/Dex hybrid glove? So you cannot use it on int merc. You need to find Str or Dex or Str/Dex one (that can also equip wands).

Str/Dex is opposite side of Int (and wand skills) so I wonder if it is even possible to find one that can wield wands. Depends on how much the skills require specific weapon types to use I guess?

Yeah. I meant figuring out a way to work this alt Heavy Strike into the build, like how we used to manually cast a Vortex in close quarters. But I have no idea whether 4500% increased attack damage (1500% * 1.5 * guaranteed double damage) is useful with no other bonuses to attack/melee. Then again, Vortex got dropped when they made it no longer be insta-cast, so I guess clubbing a tanky mob with our beat stick would similarly interrupt our normal damage-dealing.

The base damage of Whispering Ice is abysmally low, after all it's just a level 33 vile staff. So even with 4500% inc attack damage, I don't think it would be worth stopping the constant showering of icicles. Although it would be pretty funny.

And man, do I miss Vortex. Something about just pooping out little whirlpools while you spun around was so incredibly satisfying.

So thinking about trying this build at 3.26, seems like it passes untouched this league. I'm missing something? Is it viable as a league starter? Can I follow the guide from 3.25?

Hmm... But all wands require nothing but Int. I really hope the attribute rules don't apply to weapons (since they specifically mentioned armor). And still, a pure Str merc is likely to be pure melee. And a pure Dex is likely an archer. All casters that can use wands will probably be either pure Int, or Str/Int, or Dex/Int. This could be a problem. Wish we could find a datamined list of them before the launch.

Another hope is that there will be a Scion type merc (Str/Dex/Int).

How does equipping Mercenaries with items work? Can any Mercenary be equipped with any item?

Each Mercenary is associated with Attributes. Mercenaries will generate with gear that matches the Attributes they are associated with, and will only be able to be equipped with new Armour gear that matches their Attributes in the following way:

For Mercenaries with a single Attribute, any Armour gear that requires that Attribute is valid. For Mercenaries with multiple Attributes, any Armour gear that requires an Attribute not associated with that Mercenary is invalid.

As an example: A Strength Mercenary will be equippable with gear requiring just Strength, Strength + Dexterity or Strength + Intelligence. A Dexterity/Intelligence Mercenary will be equippable with gear requiring just Dexterity, just Intelligence or Dexterity + Intelligence.

Mercenaries do not need to meet attribute requirements outside of the above rule. Mercenaries need to be within 70% of level requirements of an item to equip it.

Looks like it might be possible depending on what weapons the various mercs use. Worst case looking at the auras, the aspect of the spider or fortification mercs might be good alternatives.

I do wonder if it's possible to change their skills to change their weapon? But that seems unlikely.

No. Their skill sets are pre-made and cannot be changed.

That is good news! They will offer quite a few options for other gear then. I just hope the different mercs are not too hard to come across.
I wonder if any of the merc will have animate guardian skill
