GET RID OF XP LOSS! Not fun at all, bad game design!

Just git gud man:

Respec bad build to a good one. Change gear to a better one. Don't play high-tiered maps if your current gear and build can't apprehend them. It's not hard to progress here.

I was doing fine. My monk was dealing 150k damage, clearing mobs easily, and staying alive. Then I started dying occasionally, and I have no idea why. There is no way to tell in this game. It is so erratic. You can spend hours killing everything without issue, only to suddenly get one-shot or experience a hitch that drops your health to zero in less than a second. What is that? It feels completely unpredictable.

On top of that, you lose XP that takes hours to recover. It is unbelievably frustrating.

I can't respec because I can't afford it any more, and also, why? WHY do I have to pay to respec so much gold? Why wouldn't the devs allow us to freely test build and such? Lock it after you go into a map or something, but let us have FUN! Diablo does it very well on that regard.

Theres like 4 things in here that are about your own internet. Thats not game design thats your poor internet

Controller support? Its EA... and thats an accessibility option, not really as game design...

Unexplained deaths.... no there is an explanation. Noones dying in this game to nothing.

One-shot kills, build issue. Or standing in a mechanic.

There is no game design problems here.

At least all the things you listed.

The respeccing system is another issue. It costs a ton of gold to respec, which discourages players from testing or changing builds.

It costs nothing to respec, especially after the update before they went on break.

Of course, I do not just suddenly die. I am in combat, doing what I have done a thousand times before, and then I get one-shot. I cannot afford to spend 100 divines to improve my build because I cannot progress in the game. It all becomes a frustrating cycle, and that is bad game design.

Sure, people like you can say it is fine because you have probably spent countless hours playing and likely treat the game as a second job. Let us be honest, when people claim they "only play a few hours," it is almost always untrue.

For casual or mid-level players, the game is frustrating and overly punishing. You can see this by watching top players who break every game mechanic and know all the ins and outs because they have been playing non-stop for years. The same probably applies to you. There is no way to breeze through this game without spending countless hours learning its intricate systems, watching guides, or playing it for years. It is not about just playing and having fun; it is about studying every detail, which makes it unwelcoming for most players.

This game caters to the few percent who enjoy hardcore, punishing mechanics to boost their egos and find meaning in mastering a game like this. An easy solution would be to create another league. A casual league could remove XP loss, respec costs, and waystone loss, making the game accessible to players who want to enjoy it without spending years mastering it.

Regular and hardcore leagues could stay the same, so those who enjoy the challenge can still have their bragging rights. But let us be real, most hardcore players oppose this idea because it threatens their ability to feel superior and dismiss legitimate complaints with the tired "get good" attitude.
Splitting the playerbase is always and have always been a bad choice.
I would bet the devs rather have fewer players in one league then have them split in two different leagues.

EXP-loss is the best thing with dying in both PoE1 and PoE2. Loosing other stuff in the map Im not that ok with.
But if ur dying so much you cant level you will have to change something with your build.
Or drop to lower waystone-tier and play. This for example is how most hardcore players play. They dont go instantly to Tier 15 and blast, they might stay T5 for a full day grinding just to have all the stats needed to step up in map tiers.

This also solves waystone sustain. Biggest reason people have problems with Waystone sustain is cause they die. I had this problem on my first char, I swapped to a new character that could actually handle higher tier maps and have never ever had a problem with waystone sustain (ofc u have to craft your waystones so u get higher droprate etc and that isnt really explained well yet)

If your dying to much to even level-up then you have to sit down and look at your build and try and learn what can be done about it. If your not willing to do that then this just isnt the game for you.
For me I just felt that playing a new char was the best choice for me (I also wanted to test other classes/builds so it was a nobrainer for me)

For players who thrive under this punishing game design, being fine with XP loss highlights how different our experiences are.

Splitting the player base makes sense. You represent a smaller group that enjoys the current system, while many others do not. The campaign was fantastic, with no XP loss, clear progress, was challenging yes, but having the opportunity to try as many times without having to lose XP was amazing, made us get better, that's a good mechanic, XP loss is not.

Forcing players to start fresh because they messed up their builds and can't afford to respec, wasting days or weeks of progress, and having to spend days leveling up a new character just to reach an effective point to see results, likely around level 60, is bad design. Unless the game is meant to embrace this painful process, which drives many players to quit, it needs to change.

If developers want to keep the current formula, they will satisfy the existing player base. However, if they aim for a broader audience, as PoE2 seemed to target, these punishing mechanics must go.

A separate league could solve this. Hardcore players can stick to regular leagues, while those wanting a less punishing experience can enjoy a casual league. This approach benefits everyone and would expand the player base.

I actually think you are in the minority on XP loss, same with league mechanics/resets. There have been nearly 300k concurrent players online for a month while only a vocal minority mentions the XP loss on death. People discussing games on forums are always the minority.

I would not like it if they remove it since the game would become easy mode for me, seeing GGG's reaction and explanation I'm pretty certain it will stay this way.
If I could just slam through maps with a half broken build while I keep dying and still level up that would defeat the whole purpose of the game for me and i'd probably stop playing.

I don't like it so it's bad game design.

Can we stop using that?
Good game design = "Just give me what I want all the time! Wait, I'm really bored for some reason."

No they did not. If anything, the opposite is true.
