A Simple Poll - Exp Loss on Death

Just gonna go ahead and +1 bump this

And thank you to all the other people who +1'd this, hopefully this leads to a positive change in the game. I honestly don't care if its an "easy mode" or an option in the settings or whatever, all people are asking for is player agency and for the game to respect their time, and not steal away progress which the player has earned.

Penalties like this feel like the game is forcing softcore players into playing in a hardcore playstyle. That is unacceptable when I've chosen to play in sc trade. Its 2025, I think games should move past these kinds of strategies designed to maximize engagement and playtime lmao

That is why I created this poll, and seems like the majority agrees exp loss is ridiculous because it just deletes hours of your time for no reason.

At the very least make it an optional toggle, this way people who enjoy having their exp deleted can leave it on, and everyone else can begin to have more fun in this game. It would be a win-win.
+1. If not abolish it, at least bring inovative ideas. Stop copy pastefrom Poe1.
+1
+1...although I'll settle for 50% reduction in comparison to what it is now (5% exp loss).

There needs to be consequences for dying. And I'm so glad that there's not gear damage and repairing broken equipment.
With that said it shouldn't be so difficult to upgrade gear and make yourself tanky. The fact you get one shotted at random with no chat log explanation, you just die way too randomly and one shots to ultra cheap boss mechanics and there's nothing you can do about it. Sometimes I die and die and die and lose half my level within 3 minutes, yes it pisses me off but I shouldn't just die like that. It takes me forever to level up, I don't like it. I gave up trying. There's enough flaws in the game that losing exp on death is not the core problem.

I always found that take weird, but fascinating. Why does dying need to have consequences? Why is the inherent consequence of frustration and "feeling bad" not enough of a consequence already? I am genuinely curious, because most answers to these questions come down to arguments I find unconvincing.

As explained so many times already, the reason is that reaching levels beyond 90 is supposed to be a hard, optional challenge for competitive players who want to dedicate their time to climbing the ladder. It's entirely by design that people are not supposed to be able to steamroll their way to level 100 while "zoning out" as some people in this thread have requested.

you obviously are unable to grasp the difference between an actual challenge and an artificial time sink.

Grinding for better gear is one thing, if I happen to die my progress to achieving the goal of finding gear isn't erased by several hours at a time.

Grinding for skill points is already a slog, the fact that I lose hours of grinding XP that I already earned, with no way to recover without several more hours, is over the top and out of balance, especially considering it's an unbalanced product in ea.

Sinking my time into a goal is fine. Having my hours of progress that I already earned completely taken from me is just ridiculous. This has been explained 1000 times in this forum and for some reason it just doesn't get through.

XP penalty can work if enemies actually scaled to the 90s or at the very least I could recover my XP on my corpse, With the current design it just doesn't

You got it backwards again. Without the penalty, it would be a pure time sink. Everyone would get to 100 eventually with enough grinding.

With the penalty, not everyone will reach 95+. As it should be.

Just stop. You're repeating the same redundant & empty arguments over and over again. I get it. You don't like it that 90-100 are prestige levels, but that's by design. End of story.

lol ok, that's some backwards logic. If one of my goals is to reach 100 or even 99, losing XP with no means to recover it is a time sink, period. You're reasoning for it not being just that assumes the player has no motivation to level up further, which completely contradicts what people are saying.

I don't really care if 90-100 are considered "prestige" levels by design. I'm saying it's bad design. End of story.

If your goal actually was to reach level 100 you would not mind the way it works now. In fact, you'd welcome the challenge because this way level 100 actually means something. It's a real sign of dedication and achievement.

But reaching level 100 is not actually your goal. Your goal is to get free EXP/skillpoints without any extra effort while farming currency/gear.

Can't have an honest conversation with somebody who is not honest.

That's not an explanation, just an assertion. Why is it "supposed to be hard"? Just parroting this "reason" again and again doesn't make it more valid. If you want to dedicate time, increased XP instead of punishment achieves the same goal.

You make a lot of assertions without providing any actual reason, everything is just "supposed" to be the way it is. That is not a convincing "explanation".

As explained so many times already, most people don't care about the ladder and want the skill points in a reasonable amount of time. I didn't steamroll or zone out.

I put 300 hours in a character to hit 92 and 1 death every 10 maps keeps me from progressing, and that's not a death rate that indicates a bad build or playing content too high, depending on the class that's normal (I play Merc, most the people saying git good are playing builds on the other side of the tree with es). Crafting is garbage so I'm forced to buy gear for several divs just to compensate. Garbage design

Omen of amelioration is currently 8ex and at 1 death at 92 with omen is half a map of progress.

I don't wanna be the l2p guy but...

l2p

(also, just responding to a gaslight I just keep seeing here, IF YOU DIE YOU DIDNT EARN YOUR PROGRESS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE NOT USING THE ITEM FOR MITIGATING IT. The game punishes you for failing at it, as it should)
