Doomed to fail

Hello.

I am writing this post to underline the main reasons this game will fail unless the course is averted.
There is one big underlying issue that causes all the concerns raised by players - drops, build diversity, trade systems, chase items.

"BROKEN BUILDS"

You start the league and let people to do their own thing. Some builds are mediocre, some builds are good, some are great and a few are amazing- due to unexpected interactions. There, the damage output and clear speed are much higher than average which creates the feeling of unfairness. They can clear T4 and content much faster and therefore feel "broken".

What is the current attitude of the development team?
"You're playing with the toy that I gave you in the wrong way, I'll take the toy back!". The team is cutting off pieces of the game where people have managed to build strong, wildly fun interactions. This means that instead of letting thousands of lines of thought build your game, you are eliminating external feedback and imposing your view. This results in the above mentioned issues with drops, build diversity, trade systems, chase items.

What is my suggestion?
If you find that a certain build, for example witch blood mage with cast on crit is dealing above average damage and looping:
1. Do. Not. Remove. Let the players enjoy their build.
2. Measure the damage output and clear speed. Then design, by yourself, for all other characters - warrior, sorc, etc, an end game build as broken as the above, dealing the same amount of damage via a crazy mechanic.
3. After all build are aligned and have at least one possible gateway into proceeding as FAR AS THE PLAYER BASE CAN TAKE IT, buff the bosses. Do more, T5, T6, T7, as much as you can.

Let the players lead on what you've made, and you will go far.
As a former DotA player, I can tell you: the success there is built on one thing - the community building the game, and imba interactions being rewarded - and instead of being removed, being countered by more imba interactions.

This will create a feeling of freedom, of being heard and of something to strive for in players.

All other paths here lead to exile.

-1 Hard disagree

Broken builds will appear due to the nature of the game.

Your solution? Let it be and open more possibilities for more broken builds? WTF? Then we have Vampire Survivors instead of PoE - No thank you.

The best approach is immediate action.
Player power should have a clear goal (XXX dmg/pec).
If any build is hitting more than 10% on that, put it in line IMMEDIATELLY.
And of course, be open about it and inform in Patch Notes.

This is called balance. Games need that.

You clearly dont know what balance is... Also, immediate action? Yeah sure, let players find a strong build, pay 200 divines on it and cut their legs on the next patch, for sure it will feel great
They always were like that with their poe1.
When people get too overly attached to their build, they nerf it to the ground.
So if they kept doing it in their new game, it's not an accident or misunderstanding.
There is possibly the whole strategy behind this: like "the player was cut off from his build, what he is trying to do? Trying to find another build". Or something like this. Maybe they think it is letting to retain players or something like this. Could be anything. And I don't think you can reconvince those responsible for such decisions because you were playing DoTA once.
Doomed to fail because of minor gripes in early access while the devs have proven time and time again that they are willing to listen to the community and make broad changes to the game

cool opinion man

I think you are reading into the title a bit too literally.
On the side - willing to listen. Yes, they listen, but after they lose 80% of the player base. I think a bit of a more pro- active attitude would help here?

I get what you are saying. However - it's not going to be "trying to find another build". It will be "trying to find another game.

I compared it to dota, because for game studios, profit matters. And DotA is very, very, very profitable. For a very, very, very long period of time.
*****Snore.********** I would like a lot of things. Like the end game maps not being so generic. Balance and pace is the least of my concerns when there is more skills, weapons, classes and systems on the horizon.

I got news. Your class will change during the early access. All things will have to be adjusted. The only thing that is doomed is your post.

This is my point. There will be things that are in broken in a magnitude of a 100s and visible immediately. Sure. Fix them.
There will be builds that work after a substantial investment and tuning. This is not letting random OP stuff into the game. This involves a though process - there's a difference.

My post is irrelevant for itself. Let it go. It's the idea.

Things will be adjusted, you say? Sure. I am only suggesting an alternative to the way things are adjusted.
