Doomed to fail
I think broken builds are part of the game. It is a live service game, so it will have some niche builds that emerge as the features are released, items come into play, etc.
I think GGG has done a pretty solid job in terms of handling broken builds. I know some last longer than others, and with a data scientist in their employ, I feel that time of broken build dominating will decrease. I also understand that leaving overperforming mechanics in play longer is just fine. I also don't think flat pushing lower builds up is the way either. Doing it this way just means everyone who wants to play X base class HAS to play that classes broken build. Instead of people playing the single broken build until it is nerfed. Also, doing things this way tells the community to play only broken builds. Like Diablo 3 all over again. It is a fine line. They walk it. Not always well, but they do walk it. |

My solution is much simpler. Put a hard cap to damage for each level. Are doing 1 million dps ant level 10? It is cap to 1.000 during one second.
Balance the game around that and boom! all builds are equally viable. This also works both sides. No more kill by one shot. Make it part of the core mechanic of the game. Passives that can increase the cap and passives that lower the cap against you. Mmm, that sounds like an idea for reworking armor. 最後に B00b#4465 が 2025/06/07 16:07:48 に編集

standards and constraints make games more long lasting AKA fun. As they give you more to do to reach a point. But also that point should be reachable. That middle section is where balance is. The problem is everyone has a different standard to what balance is.. I think a balanced boss fight should take 10 years. Why not? You really want a challenge? The game has a pause button. Play one boss everyday for 10 years because he full heals him self right before death, and there is a .1 % chance to kill him. Sounds foolish right? Gamers are getting to that point where the pain demand is FAR exceeding what most productive people can allow for their life. A lot of us are gonna die soon, we don't have YEARS to progress our accounts lol I am kidding, I hope that is obvious. But I feel like that underlying attitude has been a part of GGG's thinking for the better half of the 10 years Ive been paying attention. At every point there is pain. At every turn. Painful crafting, painful questing, painful mapping. Then you can 1 click bosses. Eventually. If there is a such thing as balance this ain't it.
With that said, Balance is not fun. Breaking the game can be very fun. But fun, don't last long. Nor should it. IF you want it to or not fun becomes mundane. Every single mob that has some dumb ability that interrupts you, or whatever is a limiting factor in builds and game play diversity. I don't think this has been considered on the side of GGG very much. Every thing they build into the game, every good idea is made worse by this. Think about for 2 seconds. You build a bridge, so players can cross, then you fill it with danger. This is the real problem with GGG. They are good at making very sh t bridges. The real fix.. Let the player choose. You do not need to play the most broken build. YOU DON'T. There should be a ton of fun builds. Like Thorns, and Chain lighting.. Anyone remember 55 Monking? I am showing my age. There should be clearly marked maps and content that is gonna be WAY harder for people that like abuse. They should be rewarded for the pain endurance. Now you really want to get controversial? Ban trade. That would be balance. ;) |

" They could have used your "pro-active" approach and faced just as much criticism. There is way too much going on in a game like this to have it all dialed in during early access or even at launch, and I believe the first game is a testament to this as well. If you're here now, you've opted to be a part of the growing pains. I also think that "lost 80% of the playerbase" is a huge misnomer. There are a lot of people who don't enjoy beta testing this game and have already had their fill. It's frustrating putting effort into your character only to have things added or changed the following week that undid your hard work. A lot of people are waiting for the full launch and busy doing other stuff. |

when u think about why is there broken builds in the first place also what makes a build broken the answer is other weak builds so the solution is to have actual variety in the game which they are working on for 0.3 as Johnathan said in his interview with talkative tri ofc they have to also nerf super broken builds and oneshots but when every class starts having ultra endgame viable builds the game will be better not just broekn outliers who take 50% of the player base every league
