Going in the right direction, but exp. Loss is pain point

i want to die 100 times. last season, it was so boring that i never die. but if u want to make a fun game, u gotta have deaths. but with xp loss, i want to not die??!!! what the hell man, u mean to tell me i gotta build soooo tanky that i will never risk death? that's boring as hell man. now i know i am 100% never dying, but that mean i also have no fun. i want xp loss, but dude 10% is way too high for a sequel game that is suppose to be harder and so cause u to die twice as many times as path of exile 1. so why not reduce it to 5% xp loss, if u expect me to die 2x more times... they are slowing the game down to the point of frustration. u can buy an omen that make the xp loss 2.5%. so all i gotta do is farm currency, dont trade currency or shop for any new gear, and use all that currency to buy... omen that reduce xp loss. that sound sooooo fun right?!! Why would i wanna buy anything but omen. that cool new sword? naw pass. weak-ass trap item. saving money to buy insurance is way more of the cool lifestyle... that sound soooo fun. is this an [action] rpg or a 401K investment simulation? It would be okey if there weren't so many random one shots (I guess that's EA for you).
Personaly I hate frustrating mechanics in games but I do agree there should be some penalty for death here. Just a matter of making it feel fair by either balancing it (a limit to how much XP you can loose, XP boost to gain it back faster, penalty cooldown of like 2hours etc) or keeping the game almost perfectly balanced so no bulshit deaths happen. |

No content is locked behind hitting 100. It only gives a skill point. I dont understand people that focus on reaching it so intensely that it ruins the fun of playing the game. I even hear some say "I'm not having fun but i need to hit level 100 so I can stop playing"
I get in other games hitting level cap is only the start of the endgame, but there's no reason poe needs to be the same. "Beidat honored the pact, though Mancy wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype."

Remove the exp bar then. Remove it after lvl 90. I have no issues with not reaching 100. I have ALLL the issues with seeing the game STEALING my progress with a random BS trash 1 shot.

But when you can lose progress from ten/twenty/thirty maps in one foul, unreactable, poorly telegraphed one-hit-kill... it's demoralizing/demotivating & ceases to be fun for most people. Why do I say most? Well, given that only 4 players have reached level 100 this whole season - if it were true that most people preferred this design philosophy, I would expect to see at least 51% of peak seasonal players stick around trying to reach level 100. Anything before patch 0.2.0 was easy to accomplish. There were tons of extremely rare items in trade. Now go check if you find anything good! They sell rabish in market. Players reached easy level 98 with broken builds. They spent only time by opening maps one by one... Now needs also effort and luck to survive. |

" No... thats GGG in a nutshell. Since the beginning of POE1. Balance has been a joke always. Formulas are crap (not being nasty, but they are)... and player defences and mob damage are all bullshit. This is what happens when you attempt to recreate the wheel, and have multiple mechanics, that really, are the same thing. Dodge / Ev... ? O,o Why was EV ever even a thing... Dodge was just fine. They had to go get all fancy, and it hasnt worked out ever. Armour... lol, yea, armor actualy works great, at the low end, but, when they allow mobs to hit for more than any non ES health has ever be able to obtain, yea... i mean, really? Just so many rookie mistakes that have never been fixed, and now, are part of the core. They 'should' have prioritised this as #1. But i think they actually think its just fine. DIEHARDS WANT XP LOS
SOFT CORES PLAYING IN SOFT CORE DO NOT WHY NOT PLAY IN THE PROPER DIFFICULTY TO MATCH the difficulty you want to play in. You know that the overachievers playing in softcore demanding XP loss these are the ones too chicken to play true Hardcore but want Hardcore LITE mechanics in softcore. If a difficulty setting wont please both parties why not do this: Move it from 70 to 90 so more folk can enjoy the latter part of the game not as committed to the game as the DIEHARDs. 90-100 can still be deadly. I can assure you that with the XP requirement alone most true soft core players STILL will barely even hit 90... Trust me I'm one of em... The DIEHARDS can never wrap their minds around what an AVERAGE person's life is like. 1-2 hours is a long session for a lot of people. Even on a weekend. @GGG the solution is really simple: Have these brackets: Hardcore Overachiever ChickenShit - XP loss at 50 because they like pain Softcore - XP loss at 90 If you do above you can get rid of the posts like "Please stop pleasing the casuals" "please stop catering to whiners" etc. All groups can have their cake and eat it. HC can play their league, Overachievers with tons of time demanding pain can have their way, and give the casuals a true softcore league.
