A Simple Poll - Exp Loss on Death

This thread is the most obvious proof that damage is the only form of defence for the vast majority of the playerbase.
You people are fighting with the consequences of your own greed (I want to get as much dps as possible at any cost, but I don't want to pay for it with the exp loss) and, to be fair, with the questionable decisions made by GGG regarding mostly evasion + life builds, defences in general. The passive tree gives you a big bunch of nothingness for the most part. Especially in SSF. But people still think that it is the exp loss what makes the game to feel bad.. I guess one needs a PoE1 perspective to fully understand what happens in PoE2 right now.
So.. if GGG will actually decide to overhaul defences, exp loss has to stay. If not, it should be lowered to 5% or something.

I don't know how much more explicit and clear we need to be about this. It's not the fact that we're dying - it's about the unreasonable cost of dying (losing progress from content that was already beaten prior to entering the content/area where we died).

& we're not asking for no punishments - you don't see nearly as many complaints about the other punishment of losing your juiced waystones, losing tower influence, losing special events, losing uncollected loot, and LOSING TIME.

Balance is a different discussion from punishments. The above post just feels like gaslighting in order to preserve hardcore-lite aspects in the most casual mode available to players.

How could I possibly be more clear? I even agreed that the penalty should be lowered to 5% or something if GGG won't overhaul defences. It actually makes me sick that you people fight with the consequences and do not ask for a complete defence overhaul, so you can get more ways to build an actual balanced build, not a cringe glasscannon which can't reach lvl 90. That should be very easy to understand, no?
I'm all for build diversity and I literally hate the fact that the only real option for defences to matter is to get eva\es. I'm against it. I want real defences not only in the top-right\top side of the tree, but everywhere. Spell suppression, life nodes, whatever. Something to work with.
If GGG will give us all the possible tools to make our characters tanky, I have nothing against even 20% exp penalty, because I will not die, but those who choose to build a fast albeit low ehp character should pay for that with their time in case if they die, it is simple as that.
In other words, if you choose to build a fast character to farm\cear faster, you should be punished with a possibility that your progress will be taken. For example, if I'm playing a balanced build which can run 10 maps in 1hour, though your fast build can run 13-14, it only makes sense that you pay for that with your exp\waystones\other stuff lost.

Anyway, I'm not even against balance changes, but that's a different discussion. The nuance on the appropriate level of survivability is something I can be persuaded either way. Death is necessary, but should players have more ways to reduce dying? Sure, I guess.
+1 Xp loss should be 3% of overall xp bar and 10% of xp gained in map you played and died. This is an innovative idea.
Discussing the size of the penalty still means thinking by GGG tune. More experienced players than me had offered many ways to make the penalty smarter, eliminating the BSdeath factor inherent to poe.

But even improving the crude penalty is not the limit of game design here. Rocket science: instead of punishing those who die, reward those who not die continuously. As long as we are not speaking race events, positive stimuli is always preferable over boot to the ass, if one prefers not to bleed playerbase over nothing. Other games show working examples, and somehow don't have their forums turn into pitchfork riots.

Unfortunately GGG is the least flexible company I interacted with. So many quick-to-implement ways to make player experience worth the time spent here, and instead they silently encourage the type of "you don't know what you're doing", "nobody dies to that content/boss" people. Attracting and nurturing such audience is unhealthy relationship, and as the industry standards evolve in the opposite direction, GGG will be the death of their project.

Let's just give GGG some stats on what their playerbase really wants.


+1 but I think a sharp reduction in percentage loss is fine. Like 2.5% or 5%.

That, or adding omens and delirium anointments that increase xp gains.

Not only you should loose xp on death, you should loose gold and even something else. Having no death penalty in a game is bullshit - period.
