They felt loot in POE 1 was "too meaningful" to use their phrase against them.

They actually built this game on the skeleton of "ruthless mode" in POE 1, a completely stripped down mode with almost everything taken away, and giving so little it's a struggle to bother.

The challenge comes entirely from the scarcity of gear/currency -- This is the fundamental cornerstone of POE 2.

With limits to number of portals in maps, the right way to do it should have been to give plenty of currency, but fewer (but better) item drops.

But GGG keeps thinking people will be satisfied with more item drops without the currency to slam.

POE2 is designed around the psychologically manipulative game of starving players into an unrewarding experience, so that the occasional reward feels better.

Unfortunately, that only works in the short term, and it never works in a game that should, from the get-go, be "entertainment". A game should be designed with enjoyable moment-to-moment gameplay, then use various rewards to make it feel better.

Keep trying to play this mind game, and eventually most of the people making up the mass market will conclude the game isn't worth the time and leave.

If GGG continues down this path, POE2 will become a niche game that gets a very loyal cult following, but a very small loyal cult following, and become a mostly irrelevant game to most people.



Unfortunately this is the type of direction POE 1 has started going once Chris Wilson stepped back, and another developer became the lead.

So unfortunately I would fully expect this type of game from here on out. They will do anything in their power to keep "the vision".

poe1 loot sucks.
5 mins map, 20 mins loot and inventory / stash management.

i hope loot stays like this and we can get more option to craft items like harvest (i love to swap my resists. changing 1 item is impossible in poe2 because of resists)

They literally say they regret ever giving us harvest.

They don't ever want anything like harvest ever again, or anything deterministic.

In patch 0.1 200% rarity did not had much more item than a 100% one. So the soft cap was around 150%

In an interview they told they want to put a harder diminishing return so players don't feel the mandatory change to rarity on every item...

I made a gear with 500% rarity. But when i play with others, it crushes the game all the time!
Oh, are we doing this again? Is this where people post incredible claims like pulling 1 exa out of 244% rarity maps and we just all accept it as truth without any evidence and then I start posting uncut footage of my maps like this 142% rarity one I just finished worth ~40 exa in total?
