Literally the worst gaming experience I have ever had.
" Ok but, did you like it ? |

I guess I should be fair and at least acknowledge there are definately many positives in this game. I have seen plenty of footage of people tearing up the screen. I would enjoy that too. I want to play like that. I do love the look of the game. The art, effects, dungeon/map design are all absolutely out standing. I love how different skills interact on screen to enhance their effects, lightning mixing with ice, fire etc. The sounds and dialogue I thought were also well done.
Also, I should give props to GGG for what they have done so far, it's not ALL bad. More importantly for me, I appreciate their willingness to be open in front of their audience, for the several sit down interviews they have done. I found it quite interesting the level of depth and detail that they went into describing the game systems and the difference between what we as players assume are faults, when sometimes what seems to be a direct problem is actually caused by a whole different system trait interaction. I have never known any Game Developer to be so open, patient and candid with their community. Sensing their passion and knowing their previous capabilities and success is what has kept me intersted. Sometimes it is hard to remember it is only EA when it does look so damn impressive.. +1 GGG So I was just trying to give my feedback on this particular class, so maybe others could understand some of the disparity between player feedback on here with other classes or skill gem sets. Instead of just denouncing the difficulties as lack of knowledge, skill or poor build, we should acknowledge why there are such huge differences. The reality is,some of us are playing a totally different game almost. 1 button vs complex combo interrupted by the constant need to dodge roll. Some things just don't synergise as well as they should from a default point of view. Some classes are played way more than others for a reason. You have your own metrics for which builds are performing and which are not. There absolutely have been moments where the combat felt good, exploding mass mobs in chunks of ice crystals was awesome fun... sometimes. It just seems too inconsistent. If I freeze something they can still fire homing missiles at me. The combo style fights work well and make sense when facing a Boss fight. Generally I am granted a large clear area, mostly free of terrain obstacles. I have time to prep power surge, alt spam curse and sink mana pots, frost bomb before Boss activates, spam ice nova till freeze, set up ice walls, spamm a a few frost bolts, THEN cold snap to explode it all... Sometimes all the ice shatters, sometimes one crystal shatters instead, dealing less damage and breaking the freeze. /Repeat the process till dead, simple. Sometimes the explosion takes a big chunk of health, other times not so much for the same input. Depending on how much the boss spams generally determines how long the fight lasts as my combo is interrupted by the incessant need to dodge roll every 0.5 sec, Dodge, cast, dodge, cast. But this playstyle doesnt really work well in a map filled with trip hazards, where waves of enemies come streaming at you from all directions. I get that it is a more defensive playstyle sounds cool, but you just cant keep that up all the time. There's just too many cooldowns, delays, cast time, movement speed- all time based restrictions associated with this process to be considered 'useful' most of the time. I simply cannot do enough damage or destroy things fast enough, relative to the pace of the oncoming enemy attack. Yes, i acknowledge I am gear limited, as previously mentioned. I have seen videos of similar builds working in high tier content but i cant seem to access the required gear or similar. I am sure they inherited with progress attributed from another character to make it work as well as they did. The need to mash buttons as they start to encircle me in real time leaves me running out of buttons to press as I find myself waiting for a frost bomb to explode, or a still slow ass low dps frost bolt with 40% faster projectiles to travel- somewhere in the general direction? Throw up ice walls that get in my way as much as the mobs with long cooldowns, Hypothermia- no wait its still on cooldown, or I dont have the mana to cast it, or spam nova some times once, twice, maybe 14 fucking times to freeze one particular mob, who knows? BTW it does literally no damage, which is half the problem. If it doesnt freeze them or kill them with in 3 or 4 casts (eg Magic mob) why bother pressing the button? Yes, I have invested in freeze build up.../sigh Throw in a random rare or 2 that seem more powerful than the map boss itself, and the combined assault of homing missiles, ranged machine gun trash spam leave me dodge rolling until swarmed. It may just be a fault of poor balance between skill gems. I can't help but feel that the dps was lowered on cold skills with the thought being that its offset by having the ability to freeze mobs in place and halt combat. Sounds good in theory as a defence tactic. But it has no real practical ability when the idea is to clear hordes of angry mobs rushing you from every angle. I can nova and freeze a whole mob of white enemies in place. THEN Cold snap, cast on freeze proc, frost wall/ bolt whaterver etc to destroy them.. Or you could use a lightning skill that does more dps, press one, button chain it, clear the screen, pick up loot and enjoy the game, tell those who are stuggling to git gud and get on with life. Winning! That is the difference some of us are having, whether some want to admit it or not. Which is probably why animosity towards other issues are compounding, ie exp loss on death, ascendancy point accessibility, lack of ability to target craft your gear more effectively to get out of gear ruts for anyone who isnt a fulltime streamer. I am yet to find any of the stuff they use to upgrade gear. WTF are omens? I have come across like 6. Maybe one day 100 divines will rain from the sky for me so I can buy something non trash to use, and then maybe this build would succeed. Someone at lvl95 on a meta class with uber gear, all ascendancies, pulling the phat lootz and trading for even more uber gear is not having the same experience as many of us. The Devs appear to be blending 2 different worlds- High intense screen wide mob rush content- with slow methodical almost intimate boss fights, cutscene like in essence. But not all builds or playstyles are given the ability to transition or navigate between both 'scenes' as effectively. Those who chose the 'wrong class. ascendancy or skill set' come out of the campaign, struggling to find gear upgrades, unable to earn their 3rd or 4th Ascendancy points, or get enough xp from mapping when 1 death costs more than entire maps worth of progress, so won't earn Passive skills to progress and improve. They can't craft anything useful with any certainty using the horrible RNG system that ends up wasting 'currency' more than it can reliably produce anything of value. Of course they are going to struggle considerably more and have a different perspective. So what are the rest of us supposed to do? Log on, and waste a few more hours trying to complete the Trials or Sekhamas a few more times? I can't help but wonder if I would be struggling as much as I am if, i had been able to achieve the 3rd set of ascendany. Is this taken into account in terms of difficulty scaling when transitioning from campaign to early maps? Am I just supposed to grind white/magic maps to no apparent aim, never really finding loot upgrades to progress into rare or higher tier maps that would drop the better tier loot. Instead, just picking up promising bases and turning them into trash with rare exalts? To dodge roll in frustration across maps as you watch your xp bar take another hit from a random 'God-like' Rare that turns into a 5min struggle session. Log off for the day with a sore wrist from constant dodge rolling and realising you are just wasting your time, because you are literally getting nowhere. Progress is entirely gated, by means outside of my control. How long do you think this cycle should last? I've been stuck in limbo for weeks now. Hence why there was so much attitude in the OP. The worst part is, I actually feel guilty for putting so much effort into trying to persist and improve it, that's how much I WANT to enjoy this game. I'm just too burnt by this experience to try another class. I want to, but as I said previously the second I step in and start wading through molasses, I start shaking my head. I just can't do it personally. Sorry.. Itried.. But that's definately on me. |

Man I hear you.
I stopped playing. Before I did I was at the point where the idea of playing was appealing. But I could not persist at it. There are points of absolute frustration and then spans of boredom. Where in the middle of a map I would just stop. I don't mean alt f4 I mean just stop moving .. and window out and do something else. Often to come back to my dead body but what i thought of is "I never do that" I got bored playing was my initial thinking but perhaps it was just exhaustion, like a part of my brain is just rebelling against over use, like it just wants to put down a weight. I have come to see that it is my mind rebelling against the inefficiency of my actions. It manifests in frustration and anger but i think initially it begins as irritation. No different than at an amusement park when lining up for a ride. The maze like queue that goes on for hundreds of meters zig zag back and forth and the entrance to the ride is 30 feet in a straight line from where you are! Your mind hates it, almost the same. The game is so loaded with mechanics that exist solely to inhibit the player that prolonged exposure to the game makes you hate it! There is no avoiding it, that is why it is having many issues in my opinion. I just call it, sweaty. there are more issues, but purposeful inclusion of inefficiency and forcing players to interact with those systems is why people wont tolerate the game. Typically being a skeptic I would say this would be to include a pay to win feature. To alleviate the sweat, you can buy a fan for $19.99. Im hoping that never happens. The second issue is related to gear, but man that would take a page to write. Fresh off probation, Im missing the passion . 最後に Jitter912#4278 が 2025/05/26 22:44:06 に編集

Look man, I'm not trying to rag on you, but your explanation of your build doing no DPS is 100% user error. Do yourself a favor and look up ice builds on poe2.ninja...they are literally some of the highest DPS skills in the game. Cold Snap 10-14m+ dps, Frostbolt 286k, Frost Bomb 106k+.
Yes, these are extremely well geared players, but if you hit even 30% of those numbers you would easily clear to T15's and beyond. Like, if I have to simply to prove a point will level a sorc with ice skills to show that it is in-fact on you due to either a poor passive tree, lack of synergy between skills/supports, the wrong gear... Also stop with the woe is me "only meta builds can play" bs. I've made 5 separate builds this league, 1 of them was LS and while it does indeed scale easy and screen clear, the playstyle is horrendous. So I made chars I find fun, using skills I like using. PF Incinerate, Instant Earthquake Titan, ED/Contagion Lich, and an Ice Strike Invoker. They all are capable of clearing full content, the LS spear amazon was my second char of the league and my least played. I've made nearly all of my currency and loot on my Warrior, which was my league starter. 最後に Seanprice798#2395 が 2025/05/26 22:53:54 に編集

This game will punish you if you don't exploit every possible mechanic that can work in your favor. Do yourself a favor and check out some build guides and with a few tweaks to your setup you can significantly raise your DPS and survivability. The learning curve is high, but the gains are there for the taking if you know what to do.

" LOL black kettles and pots all over this forum. Many on here are agruing against many if not most of these mechanics. " You may well be right...You may also be wrong..does it matter? " You would be correct as I am not saying that this is the worst game ever produced or released. Rather it has been the worst new game play experience I have ever had. There is a difference.. Fallout 76 as someone mentioned earlier would be a better example of contender for 'worst game ever'. However this is as I acknowledge, Early Access and I am providing feedback. I don't need you to agree with me, regardless of what you may feel. " Here it comes, full autopsy of my character required so you can pick its carcass apart till you find just one thing you can use to credit your argument. You can see my health and ES in the 'cute pic' I showed. Resists are over cap, except for Chaos which was a little lower. My bad. If i could craft more on I would. I mentioned that I cant seem to improve it with loot, crafting, or passive points. Maybe you missed that point. I know, I know.I need more armour on my sorc right? more evasion too? having trouble squeezing it all in when I have to rely on RNGeebus to provide for me. Again, being able to actually target craft to fill out the necessary slots would go a long way. But hey, I lack skill tho am I rite? " It is a cute pic isn't it? Unfortunately this was all I could fit in the screenshot. I didnt show the rest of the area, that was pretty much the same. Yes, i do know that I can roll through most of them. Thanks for that. My point is do I really need to go through this section back and forth 3 or 4 times just to pull multiple levers, then go to the next area and repeat a similar process of fucking dodge rolling? Enough with the dodge rolls already. Well that may be fine, once, twice, but 3-4 floors of it is too much imo. I think its entirely too tedious after the first few encounters like this. You may well enjoy it. I don't doubt that you would enjoy it more when its the proverbial 'cake walk' that it obviously is for your character. I like how people just make it seem like you can totally avoid all thse afflictions like it's more to do with poor planning on behalf of the user implemented at the very start than anything RNG has to say. I have zero control over what options are offered down the line not can I see that far. Eventually you are limited to one of 2 choices. If I am 30mins in, and eventually get to choose between No ES or -40% damage, Is that really a poor build choice? Poor planning? Can i buy some loot to get out of the situation? Should I have known at the start of the trial that by the 3rd floor if I pick the middle row I would essentially end up with taking one of 2 trial ending mechanics? Gives me a merchant, but I can't earn water. My point is by the time i near the middle of the 3rd floor i've chosen between afflictions only to still end up with a bunch that combine severely enough to make it near impossible to complete by the boss fight and have wasted the time. I said 'near impossible' because I do acknowledge that my actions are subject to causing the loss of honour in the first place. Can you point to me on the Passive Tree where the Clairvoyance passive is please? I can't tell you off the top of my head what the exact relics are that I have. But they are indeed the best max honour & resistance that I have access to (think its about 50- 60% resist 25% max?) That's about all I can fit in my tiny little POS relic box. Again, if you refer to the cute pic you can see my honour there. In your uberness you may have failed to notice that, whilst you have obvioulsy completed your 4th ascendancies, you would have unlocked more of the relic box with which to put said POS relics in. I however, am unable to unlock 1/2 the box. Gee, I wonder how much of a difference that could make between your trial runs and mine, you know, seeing as you put so much inference on the importance of relics. As I mentioned I am struggling to complete it. More so from a lack of patience and desire more than anything now. Just tired of attempting it only to get randomly shafted towards the end. IMHO the entire honour system is excess unnecessary garbage introduced just to inflate the game systems. It holds no value outside of the trial itself what so ever (ie you dont run honour resist or relics in maps so why have it in a trial?) except to arbitrarily deflate character defences. I could pass the trial with my build, if it wasn't for the honour system hamstringing it into absolute uselessness, and making my defences meaningless. It doesnt matter that my ES shield can recharge and continue on to the next fight, because my honour doesn't. Again, probably not an issue for your character with all ascendancies and full uber gear. I wonder what difference 2 more ascendancy points could make? Again, some of us aren't playing the same game. " +1 I love your enthusiasm sir! And Congratulations! Your right. I am accepting responsibility for my failures. I am not saying that I am not dumb enough to step the wrong way or that I am completely faultless in my game play. Not by far. Similarly I am not asking for any nerfs to other classes or skills either am I? So what really is the problem? I'm just saying, 'wouldn't it be nice, if my cold sorc could compete on the same footing as your 'insert build X' that you are dominating the trials with?" Too much to ask? I am simply identifying the roadblocks to my enjoyment of this game. The Devs are under no obligation to cater to me personally. I acknowledge that. But I am clearly not the only one with some level of distaste. Some people on here act like this is the first ever iteration of a game that has game mechanics or the dodge roll function and think everyone is just downright incompetent or unable to read. Pro Tip: It's not. Quite frankly, its down right insulting. Thats why I am comparing it to 40yrs of playing previous games. No first in-game experience has been quite like this for me personally. Again, i don't need you to agree, its a point of view. Don't becomme dishevelled my good dude.. I have no doubt that my bigest disadvantage has mostly been class choice. I have no doubt that if I did what most people do and build my first character as one of the top 5 cookie cutter meta builds, spamming certain skills, farmed the currency to buy the uber items, and then made this character, I have no doubt my experience with the current build would be much much different.. But I didn't, and here we are. 最後に WARLOCK#6450 が 2025/05/26 23:57:12 に編集

Yeah, you ignored my other posts regarding that it has nothing to do with your class choice, and literally the skills and class you picked have some of the highest DPS in the game. But do keep being overly dramatic and mostly ignoring the parts that are constructive because instead you'd rather take offense to everything. Have a good night my guy, I'm done wasting words.

" Ha, 'The woe is me only meta builds can play is not my argument.' I'm not even making it. i only mention it as metric of perspective that some seem unable to grasp. yeah sure, you could roll a sorc now and prove me wrong, with all the extra gear and knowledge you've accomplished. But your conflating the performance of one uber geared enough to run T16 maps with where I am currently, which is not the same. And more so, my point i was trying to outline in OP, besides a healthy rant that is. I'm in a rut and feel unable to dig myself out of it. Hence the feeling of futility. It's all well and good to say that cold skills have some of the highest DPS in game, Cold snap can deal 14m damage. I don't doubt that. But I am never gunna do the 14m damage at lvl 72, with 4 less ascendancy points, no uber slammed 100+ div rare/legendary loot etc. Am I? So how do I get out of it, or more so what is there to keep me playing once I reach this state? God forbid that there might be a lack of balance in such a complex game still in Early Access that one skill or class performs better than the other and may need adjusting. Am I really in the minority or the majority of players that thinks some of these mechanics are utter dogshit? But whatever we do, don't dare mention it, thats heresy! Fanboys will come for your blood!. Geez mate, I started playing when Dawn of the Hunt Released. Get a grip, eh? I apologize that my new player experience wasn't up to par with the exacting standards of the POE2 community, with the countless hours of incessant study and practice you all must devote to the altar of GGG in order to git gud enuff find fun in this monstrosity. Please dont destroy me O God Warriors of Wraeclast or where ever the hell this is. Have mercy on my poor miserable soul. I was only trying to play a game not join the cult for fucks sake.... /kneels 最後に WARLOCK#6450 が 2025/05/27 1:11:24 に編集

" I may have, just as you may be missing some of my points. All i wanted to do was leave my first game play impression. Now I have to defend myself or my character to justify why I left it? Mine differs from yours that is all. It's all valid. I bet we both could care less at the end of the day. Some new players will play this game and have the experience you did, others may end up like me. Burnt out from getting nowhere after a few weeks. Indeed I respect your gumption and passion tho and hope you have a good night sir! +1 |

The OP is absolutely correct. I feel the same way, and get stuck in ruts that are irritating and feel like a waste of time.
Great majority of posters appear to feel the same way as the OP and I do. Since we have a new teaser patch coming this week, I'll be repeating my alpha testing routine to see what the real effect is, but for now, POE2 takes a back seat to anything. Nothing is more insulting that watching a meta build get nerfed a few weeks later in the same patch. |
