GGG, XP loss should obviously be on top of the issue queue.

They should simply remove the penalty and double or triple exp required from 90-100

The biggest issue is when you are in the 90's you are forced to do content that is 10+ levels below you as there is no way to get areas with levels above 82 and getting 81 or 82 areas is very hard to do since for 82 you need a t16 map and an area that is both irradiated and has a random corruption or cleansed +1 level on it. So experience trickles in due to the level difference but those mobs that should be "trivial" to a character that is 10+ levels higher can still one shot often with no warning.

If we were able to actually get maps of level appropriate mobs with proper experience then a death would not feel as terrible as it currently does. Having one death erase several maps worth of experience is what makes things so frustrating currently. It would be very nice if after you complete a T16 map that you could actually get t16's dropping. Heck let that be the mechanic for getting maps above t15 corrupt til you get one then successfully run it and then that tier can drop. Rinse repeat for maps higher than t16. Even if loot is capped at the 82-83 level we currently have just being able to consistently run higher level areas for better experience would be nice.

It would also be nice for there to be a damage pass to fix some of the random one shotting by white mobs. Some of the biggest offenders are mobs that charge or jump on you. (And don't forget fixing visibility of area effect markers as some maps and delirium fog can make seeing things very difficult. As can grouping with a friend who has spell effects covering the ground.) Another big outlier on damage is lighting. Lightning storm shrines, strongboxes, and rares have a high tendency to one shot often before you realize a lighting storm shrine / rare is in the area.

And that's why its bad game design and it must be changed. Completely unacceptable for a game in 2025 to have stuff like this. Its almost as bad as the Trialmaster being mean and taunting the player when they die in an Ultimatum in poe 1, makes me wanna turn my voice sound off but I need it on to hear boss cues. This kind of malevolent game design only pushes people away from the game, and that's bad for retention and bad for profits.


Its unacceptable in 2025 for a game to have mechanics that punish people for playing bad and rewarding player for playing good? Sounds like every game ever made.

Your just under a misconception where you think a good game needs to be designed for everyone, when in reality every game thats like that is garbage.
The moment you start designing your game for everyone it becomes complete trash, because people enjoy different things and different types of games.

With omen you lose 2.5% exp per death.
If your level 90 you get more then 2.5% exp in 10-15 maps, so your still progressing, just slower.

And weither or not someone "sucks" is just a subjective opinion. But the fact is that if your losing more exp then your gaining then thats just the game telling you that your not ready to progress further. You can try to argue that leveling should be faster but people who think that exp loss should be removed are actually just delusional.

Exp loss is just a bad mechanic, no reason for it to stay in the game. At least make it optional with a toggle in the settings, that's all they would need to do.

That's not the game telling you you're not ready to progress, that's the game not being balanced while in EA with other issues, on top of a snails pace of leveling.

Omens are just a work around of a bad mechanic. I also have offered several alternatives to the current XP loss. One being recover XP on dead body, which is a compromise because with 1 portal left you knowingly risk the XP. I've also said map tiers should go higher so we can actually level up at a decent pace. The pro penalty crowd refuse to entertain reasonable solutions like that, they are hell bent on making sure you suffer and put in 1000 hours on a single character.

10%, and even 2.5% when you are 10 levels above enemies is just poor balance. Having to buy an item to work around poor balancing is just bad game design. There's really no excuse for 10% penalty in EA
I think the -75% XP loss omen should be removed from the game and then XP should only be lost from the current map, instead of 10% of your bar. I agree with the topic that losing XP from previous maps you didn't die in is the most aggrivating part for most people. The -75% XP loss omen is also just stupid and I never really considered using any other omens at high levels due to how mandatory it felt, even in PoE1.

Very level headed and fair adjustment recommended. I get losing experience and the map you died in. Taking away experience from other maps you cleared successfully at the rate of sometimes 1+ hour of play time is overly punitive.

Seems like most people in the post feel this way, with one or two people who appear to spend more time in the forums then playing the game advocating for keeping the current level of the penalty. Makes sense why those couple of people don't care since they are playing path of forums and not the actual game.
