Yes, this is what I was attempting to express with point #1. Basically asking for dynamic punishment. I think exp gating in some manner is a great option. Might be a pain to implement.

I think ggg is good at coming up with creative solutions to issues. It feels like its difficult for them to recognize an issue however. This might be a dev symptom as well- its very easy to get stuck in patterns. Sometimes difficult to let go of an old way and embrace a new one.

That is how you lead, but it is risky as its vulnerable to failure.


GGG, FCOL, make things like this optional, like hardcore. Those championing XP loss are your most hardcore players. They enjoy the flagellation. Everyone else, do not.

This shouldn't be a zero-sum thing. We can have both and everyone can then enjoy the game, no?

High level players can opt to keep enjoying the pain. Less capable players should be put on an enjoyable path of growing into the game and it's difficulties without "challenge" being forced down their throat. Most won't even have the time to grind the pinnacle content anyway. Many do not even have the twitch reflexes to beat the most challenging content.

But you all built a solid game and seem to not want the majority of the player base to experience it. Is that your grand vision, GGG?

I suspect that Trade and the Economy are the reasons as to why this has become a very difficult issue to address.

Levels do matter. Everything in the game is computed with character levels at its base. Not everyone participates in trade. 1. Why is it easier for me? Ive had to go trough the same challenges as anyone else to reach 96, and im still not max level, and me dying at 96 has a much bigger impact then it is for you dying at a lower level.

2. I completed the campaign and all ascendancies without trading once, ofc now most of the gear im using is from trade, because the game doesnt have a finished crafting system and the game is balanced around you using trade.
If you wanna complain about the trade system being bad go right ahead. But you cant try to make it a point that "this mechanic" is bad because you dont interact with trade.

3. You are incorrect in how you think levels work.
The game is not "computed" with character levels at its base. Its basically the opposite.

What does levels give you? Skill points.
And by the time you reach level 90 you will have alredy allocated all the big impact nodes for your build. And it ends up just being a choice between a tiny amount of more dmg or a tiny amount of more es. My character going from 90-100 would result in aprox a 5% power increase.

The overwhelming majority of skill points on your tree are nodes that scale off of your equipment. So your trying to make it sound like levels are really important because everything scales off of levels. But its the other way around, levels give you skill points and your skill points scale off of your equipment. So if you have bad equipment then that means that the character power you would get from those last 10 skill points is even less then it would for me.

You are just playing the victim card and trying to hide behind excuses like "everyone else is just trading their way to the top". Bruh where do you think I got the currency to trade with in the first place? I farmed it the same way as you have to. I reached lvl 96 by grinding exp the same way you have to. Stop acting like its unfair. If you get better at the game you will be rewarded more.

They really need to address exp loss. Its a mechanic that completely disrespects the player's time and sets them back 3 steps after taking 1 step forward. Its so pointless and outdated.

The easiest fix is to just make it optional in the settings menu, this way both people that enjoy it can use it and people that don't like it can disable it. So everybody would be happy.

I tried tried tried to play along, get gud, get tuff. Though I was doing great then yesterday reset to the start of 87 at least 6x in consecutive maps.

I give up.

Sick and tired of starting over because of some BS that was invisible on the screen.

Spent a ton on some new gear so that I had good res, including Chaos, and decent evasion, ES. Bamn Bamn Bamn ded ded ded.

Don't know how things can go F A N T A S T I C for 30 or 40 maps then the game just goes NO AH AH... "FUN DETECTOR ENGAGED" DED DED DED.

IDK how I see these people with 8000 ES.

Having XP basically reset is #1 reason for the terrible rage emotions that get evoked with this game.

Off the HD again at least a few weeks.

To add to this at Jonathan "We just wont crash!" how about fixing your damn game and stop blaming a massive entity like nvidia for your game code. Learn how to troubleshoot. Curious why every other game doesnt crash using nvidia drivers...Sick and damn tired of the damn crash... wheels spin... black screen, map progress totally resets so you got NO clue where you been. What a half A fix.

XP loss will always be viewed negatively, because it is a negative.

You gained something, it was taken away. It doesn't matter the reasons behind why it is taken away. If it can be partitally mitigated, or it's your fault or the games fault.

It is as simple as that.

It already does that, you cannot lose any levels gained. Most of the suggestions in this thread would take those "savepoints" away.

POE1/2 are different games from D4/LE. If you want brain dead games that hand you everything with no risk, go play those.

Seems like a nonsense to remove experience loss. "Oh! I died, anyways."

There is already an omen that makes the experience loss quite low, why can't you be satisfied by it?

Where would they get more to give you if that's all there is?
At the eve of the end
They should make the loss like 5% and see how people feel with that. I'm struggling with trying to level up but keep falling back down. Can barely reach level 79 here =(
